I do not really understand graphics drivers (what they are, what they do) but I have read that many people are downloading different drivers than what comes with the Alienware m14x laptop (I have most commonly seen something called the 280.26 driver mentioned).

Do I need to download a different driver for better performance in gaming? I have upgraded everything from the stock version so I have 3.0Gb NVIDIA GeForce 555m and 8.0Gb RAM with an SSD and some other stuff like a flamethrower in the back.

It is safe to download another driver? If so, which driver is best for gaming? I know where to get them on the NVIDIA site.

Thanks for your help once again :)

The Alienware M14x uses two drivers, one for the Intel graphics card and one for the nVidia graphics card. As you will use the nVidia card for the demanding games, this will be the most important driver to update of the two.

Currently the best nVidia driver for the M14x is the 280.26 driver. If you download this driver from the nVidia site, you have to edit the .inf file manually. Download the driver and .inf file from Drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com if you don't want to do it manually.

Do not download 280.36 as it will not work on the M14x (not compatible with nVidia Optimus).

The drivers will give you better performance (framerate) in games than the driver your M14x shipped with.

The site in the link you provided is a bit confusing. If you could explain how to get the appropriate files (and where does the .inf go?) or how to manually do it from the NVIDIA site that would be greatly appreciated and I'll be your BFF :)

OK. Follow this link to download the correct driver for Windows 7 64-bit: Drivers | laptopvideo2go.com

Download the requested driver, and the modified nv_disp.inf file.

    1. Unpack the driver
    2. Replace the nv_disp.inf file with the modified one you downloaded
    3. Launch the setup and install the driver.

    Confirm.

Downloaded and unpacked the drv, downloaded and copied nv_disp.inf to the dir ==> Display.Driver, replace them in the present.

Dvriver installed, everything ok. Optimus works.

    Thanks.

    Ciao :)
