I ordered an Alienware 14 and went to upgrade the memory it wouldn't work . Of course after doing some research, I then put some 8GB Crucial sticks I had on hand that were at 1.35V and it worked just fine. I really didn't know much about DDR3L until today. Can I assume that any laptop modules at 1.35V would be considered DDR3L eventhough the packaging only says DDR3?

Yup... It has to be 1.35v ram. I dont think it has to have the L in the name, as long as the voltage is right..

The JEDEC specification for DDR3L is that the modules must operate at 1.35V. There are no other physical differences from any other DDR3 SODIMM.

I added a set of the new G.Skill Ripjaw 1600 1.35v ram (2x8gb) to my 14. The timings are a little tighter than the stock. The 14 is reading them all properly according to CPU-Z... So far so good. I ram The alienware Diags and they passed.

I'm using 2x8GB kit of Kingston HyperX pnp 1.35v 1600MHz..Have been using these for quite a few days and so far so good
Can't notice the benefit of 16gb over 8gb though, but at least the latency (CL9-9-9-27) is better than the stock samsung 2x4gb (CL11)
