I've been playing Just Cause 2 on my laptop since I got it, runs very well imo. However I notice a difference between battery and powered play.

There is noticeable lag when just turning around in the game between the two. At first I though because the system is in some low power battery mode, however I have set it to high performance on battery and the problem remains.

So I ask if I'm doing something wrong or if the system will just never have enough power for full performance under battery.

When you're on battery, the GPU will auto downclock to save the battery usage even you're on High Performance mode, I think there's nothing you can do about unless you revert to the A01 BIOS version, because it will eat your battery in several minutes. If you want a smooth gameplay then plug in the power cable.

Well, I dont think there's something wrong with your laptop though because all M14x that has A03 BIOS version or higher, will downclock its GPU by default once you're using the battery. And one more thing you should check is if your game is properly whitelist in the NVIDIA Control Panel, but as said before, it will eventually auto downclock itself once using the battery.

m17x video card down-clocks itself as soon as you unplug it. I Guess the thing just draws to much power to even attempt to run at full load. I don't think the m14x is any different ;)
