I am surprised you guys here have perfectly working M14x R2s, as a group of people including me are facing serious issues concerning the GPU on our machines, not working anymore after the bios A09 upgrade. We tried everything, from clean install, go buying and trying Windows 8, to getting the motherboard replaced via warranty, till even getting a whole new laptop replaced, it still has not been resolved. It's been more than a month now.

Here's the link to the original thread concerning this issue:
M14x R2 BIOS A09 Nvidia problem - Alienware Forum - Alienware Club - Dell Community

Personally, I have tried clean install of windows 7/8 and got my motherboard replaced (which by the way, the technician who did the job did leave some scratches on my previously perfect device). I'm very furious about this issue, and I think it's time to claim for a full refund, I don't want to deal with such issues anymore.

    I have the following warranties:
    1. INFO 1 year next day In-Home Service with Premium Phone Support
    2. Standard service - 1 year coverage included with your PC
Standard service - 1 year of Next Business Day coverage included with your PC
    2. 2 Years Next Day In-Home Service with Premium Phone Support
    3. 2 years accidental damage protection

That's what written on my receipt concerning my warranty. Do you guys think this is justified? and also, is there a proper format to ask for a refund?

I have been keeping an eye on the thread on the dell forums and I am shocked by the lack of response to this issue. I would be asking for a full refund and taking my cash elsewhere. If you're in the UK I would be filing a complaint with ofcom, if you're in the US, the BBB. Get the ball rolling on this and stop messing around waiting for their engineers to solve the issue.

Yeah I did call them for a full refund, which they agreed to, but it will take some time. I am now searching for alternatives.

Well there is Asus, Clevo and Sager are the big options. Unless you opt to stay with Alienware and go for a 17 or 18, but those won't be in the same price range.

From this new thread on dell forum: Return procedure not provided. - Customer Care - Forum - Customer Care - Dell Community

I am in the process of returning my M14x R2 for a full refund, and while this had been confirmed to me on the phone some weeks ago, I have not yet gotten any email about how the process actually works. I live in Manchester UK, if that is useful.

On friday I received 8 empty boxes from a shipping company named DPD. 8 boxes for one laptop? I don't know. On all the boxes there are like the same shipping slip, which does not seem to be a two-way one, only one to get the boxes to ship to me. Shouldn't I be getting a packing slip to be able to send the laptop back as well? I'm clueless.

    LOLOLOL

    Alienware is going strong!

Yes, return the notebook asap and investigate the 15" SE at malibal. The more time you waste, the more money you are wasting. So an expensive notebook becomes ludicrously expensive after you've invested tens of hours trying to get it fixed. The only way out is to avoid the brand IMO.

There few options for real notebooks, but Clevo, Dell, and Asus do make some options that are more reliable IMO. You can buy from resellers like Malibal (reasonable) and Origin (pricey).

Alienware is barely a boutique brand now, and is simply stagnating IMO.

BTW the 15" SE Clevo is now offering the new Kepler-based MX GPUs o_O The 650m is pretty nice, but it can't compare to these babies :]

check out the GPU choices :]

    Graphics Card
Recommendations: Please select NVIDIA's Blazing Fast Graphics Engine, the GeForce GTX 675M 2GB for playing all of the latest 3D games, applications and more. The GeForce 675M is the World's Fastest GPU for notebooks.

    Make A Selection
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660M (Kepler) 1GB GDDR5

High-End Graphics featuring Microsoft DirectX® 11 (User Upgradeable)

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670M (Fermi) 1.5GB GDDR5

High-End Graphics featuring Microsoft DirectX® 11 (User Upgradeable)

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670MX (Kepler) 3GB GDDR5

High-End Graphics featuring Microsoft DirectX® 11 (User Upgradeable)

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 675MX (Kepler) 4GB GDDR5

High-End Graphics featuring Microsoft DirectX® 11 (User Upgradeable)

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M (Kepler) 4GB GDDR5

High-End Graphics featuring Microsoft DirectX® 11 (User Upgradeable)

    AMD® Radeon HD 7970M 2GB GDDR5

High-End Graphics featuring Microsoft DirectX® 11 (User Upgradeable)

^ even the 660m surpasses the 650m. Falinware could have figured out a dual GPU 650m or something by now, but instead the competition has eaten them.

d'oh. i also found out the 15" chassis can only drive one ext + the internal display -OR- two externals w/ no internal display. even the m14x can do two external plus the internal ... for my VJ use, this kills the Clevo :[

That's a GPU limitation, not Alienware specific.

sorry, talking about the Clevo 15" SE still ...

the MX GPUs should be able to drive more than what i stated, yet it is crippled according to Malibal.
