Hey guys. I have an R1 which has given me charging issues for a while now. I initially thought it was a charger issue so I got a new one but realized the issue still persists: whenever I plug in the charger it always charges for a little while and then stops, giving me the "plugged in, not charging" message.
I tried a few solutions found in this and other forums but none helped me. I also can't get Dell to fix it since my warranty is up and their support in Israel sucks anyway.
One solution I did find (though I have no idea exactly why and how its going to help me get a more permanent fix) is to plug in the charger while Skyrim is on (I guess it will work with other games). As long as the game continues to run, the battery will continue charging. As soon as I close the game or even pause it, the charging stops and the plugged in, not charging message returns.
Any explanation or help for this will be most welcome!
    Thanks in advance :)

What BIOS version are you running?

You can check it by accessing the BIOS (Tap F2 at the Alienware Logo Screen while starting up), or by typing "msinfo32" into your start menu search box (Around the 10th line it says BIOS version).

I'm guessing you own a M14x R1 correct? If that's so, try this BIOS update.

I'n currently using the unlocked version of the A08 BIOS though I tried practically every possible version, locked and unlocked and none did the trick.

Try to do a power drain (Unplug adapter, press and hold power button for 10-15 seconds, reconnect)

After the power drain, try loading BIOS defaults, then check if the adapter is being recognized in the BIOS.

I tried that- the charger is recognized but sometimes it just won't charge. I also tried different BIOS versions so I rolled back to practically every possible BIOS version since A05, locked and unlocked. Actually, since figuring out the "trick" I found that I'm getting longer charge periods before it stops.
What I really don't understand is the logic of it... Is it possible that higher system load "encourages" the charger the charge?

I have the exact same issue and I bought my M14x R1 in May -- is it possible to also have a copy of the solution that worked?
