I've suddenly started getting overheating issues with my R1.
The surrounding temperatures were around 30 degrees.
While playing NFS The Run on max settings, my GPU never went over 75 and CPU also stayed below 85 or 90 (I don't remember exactly)
But today, in just 10-15 minutes, CPU Package peaked at 96degrees and GPU soared to 82 (These are the max temps recorded)
I checked the fan. I feel the fan is not running as strongly as it used to run some months back :/
Perhaps its the new BIOS or something, but I did not have a problem with noisy fans as long as it gave me a cool laptop!
Is there any way to control the fan speeds and put it to MAX as soon as a game starts? I really don't mind the noise.

I upgraded to A08 bios. Will see the effects now.
    Thanks!

I think there's a problem with the fans.
You see, when one upgrades the BIOS, the fans go on max power, and this happens sometimes while booting also, for 2 or 3 seconds. When you hear the ACTUAL LOUD noise of max fans.
I used the unlocked BIOS to make my fans go 100 at just 50 degrees.
Noise? None :| They appear to run VERY weakly for some reason.
Any way to monitor the fan speed other than the A05 unlocked BIOS?
Is there any old BIOS I could try? I really don't mind fan noise as long as my notebook stays cool!

    You could try A03.

I tried that BIOS a couple weeks ago and the fans noise was so annoying I had to switch back. Fans were literally on 24/7 non stop full blast. If you don't mind that, then by all means try A03 :p I didn't suggest it previous because I thought you would get annoyed by it.

    Migrated over to A04
(A04's the one that gave support for SB processors, I think)
    Let's see what happens.
Though I do have the feeling that something's wrong with the fan/sensors. Since the fan don't really get triggered at full blast even when CPU's going to 90!

Fans are better now. Not really those full blasting superjet fans like you get while installing your BIOS. But this is workable. I think.
    Thanks a bunch!

I think you just need to clean your system. It helps a lot

Repasted my unit last night for a bit of fun, runs 6c lower than before, easy as job had it apart and back together (on a cluttered workspace) in about an hour :)...the guide on this forum is absolutely fantastic...

    Cheers,
    Nick

Could anyone tell me what's the PCH sensor?
Because it constantly displays 56 degrees, irrespective of the CPU or any other temps. Even if the CPU is burning at 90, PCH stays 56. Even if the CPU is idling at 50, PCH is 56.

    It's the Platform Control Hub.

It acts as a communicator between the CPU and motherboard.

So it's fine if it stays at the same temperature all the time?
Could it be that the sensor has failed and this is the reason the fans don't get triggered to go on max power?

Here is more information about PCH:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/581349-normal-pch-temp-full-load.html

Not sure why you PCH stays the same temperature all the time, mine, as well as everyone else's fluctuates.

Did you try cleaning the inside of your laptop? In the span of 4 months, my temps have increased by +10c until I recently cleaned it. It gets quite filthy in there so cleaning it a few times a year helps both the temperature and the fan.
