EVGA Precision will overclock it as well. That's my usual weapon of choice.

what benefits does evga precision and msi afterburner have to just nvidia control panel as far as max overclock and stability. Is there any or is it just ease of use.

I'd be careful about pushing it too far. Alienwares are known for great cooling, however you're still talking about a full power mobile CPU and an upper mid-end (or lower high-end, depending on how you classify it) GPU, on the same heatsink cooled by a single fan. Don't be suprised if there's not much room for overclocking it.

@Evil, Im hoping to at least get 15 to 20 percent overclock. That may be a bit much but like Titan I will take her apart on delivery and remove and apply new TIM and see how it goes. Somehow I get the feeling we will really need the OC to get the frame rates we are looking for. If I have to (for most games anyway) I can disable turbo to keep temps down. It also depends on the FAN profile. I wish they would give us control of that. I would crank it up during gameplay. Again... I have lots of work ahead of me. I did the same thing for the m11x R1 (pre-bios mods and pre-soldering) and I have some of the best real FPS numbers for games before I sold it.

Well, I wish you good luck then. With new thermal paste you've got a good shot at achieving it, particularly if you disable Turbo (you probably won't see a huge benefit from turbo in most games anyway, not as much as GPU overclocking at least.)

steve im with ya on this one what type of thermal paste are you going to be using, ive only applied to my desktop and my older acer aspire (6 years old)

i think i will leave it stock and test i think i have some AC silver somewhere.

Hopefully plays better then my desktop (this should hit about 13000 3dmark06) (my desktop hits 15900)

i would think that you would be able to overclock up to %30 percent at least if your talking about the m14x due to the great cooling or so i hear. and i believe that would be the only time the 3gig version has any perks maybe 2 to 5 fps more lol depending on the game, and at the same time could lower the fps haha damn i do not know if i should get the 3 gig or the 1.5....i hear it has no perks and than i hear it has a small advantage 1% to 3% percent even if its 1% i would still get it, yes pathetic i know lol

does overclocking reduce the life of a notebook or its safe until the temperatures are normal.

Technically, yeah, it does reduce a component's lifespan... from fifty years to forty-five.

You're fine, as long as you stay within acceptable temperature ranges.

Not if you keep the temps reasonable. All overclocking does if raise the temps which extra temps are what hurt the gpu. There are ways to counter high temps like TIM and laptop coolers which can sometimes make an overclocked gpu last longer than one running at stock
