In the BIOS how do I OC the CPU? I am looking to raise the speed a bit (not too much), maybe from 2.0 GHz default to 2.1 or 2.2 GHz and the turbo to 3.0 GHz. I'm not sure which settings in the Performance Menu I change.

Also, I raised the Bus Core Clock from 99.8 MHz to 1 GHz. What did that do?

    Thanks.

Overclocking your BIOS will not do much - the core clock controls not only the CPU and GPU of the M14x (which are the most overclockable elements) but the PCI ports, USB interfaces and everything else on the logic board as well. Since those interfaces can't support more than a few steps up, you wouldn't be able to see any substantial gains. Rather, I'd look into overclocking your GPU in the nvidia control panel.

You probably won't have to worry about your CPU too much unless you're doing intensive rendering or something processor-intensive - the GPU will take the majority of the load.

    Hope that helps!

Thans for the reply. Did I change the speed of all the buses from what I did? Do you think I could push it a little higher?

I'm just looking to run my laptop above the stock speeds that's all.

Yeah, the core clock affects every bus that can be overclocked.

You could probably push it a bit higher, but, again, you won't really see any noticeable gains. If you actually want improved performance (at the expense of heat, noise and power consumption), look at overclocking the CPU (there are dozens of programs out there) and GPU (use nvidia's control panel).

Thanks. So it's impossible to OC the CPU from BIOS?

Also I don't see any change to my speed when I look at my System ProperTies is that normal?

It's not impossible, no. You can play with the power limits of the CPU - increasing them will increase CPU speeds. This is more effective than in-OS OC'ing, but can also be less stable/more harmful to the computer (if done incorrectly (though the M14x BIOS is pretty safe)).

As for system properties, Windows 7 only reflects hardware specs in system properties - it'll only tell you your hardware's stock speeds. For actual real-time readings, I'd recommend CPU-Z .

Thanks. CPU-Z reads 99.9 for bus speed ... Would I have to stress the CPU for turbo to kick in and see where it maxes out at?

Turbo Boost doesn't affect the BCLK, only the multiplier. If you want to see how turbo boost kicks in, get Throttlestop to monitor the multipliers and run a TS Bench or a similar CPU stressing programm. The BCLK will always be at those 100MHz, even with Turbo Boost active.
