Why do you think I'm waiting ^^
You should follow the release schedules a little more. Though it's still not an option. I only found on the beglian store a message, but that might be misplaced, gotta ask to them on monday.

By the way that graphics card and cpu is both a year old. Why did you even buy a new one now XD.
If you haven't opened the package you might be able to return it. But not sure since it's custom build for you.
Try alienware chat (alienware.com upper right corner). it's open 24/7 They should help you further if it's possible.

Intresting, if the 860m will perform better than the 765m, i may end up purchasing a new mobo :D. Hope is not just a rebadge.

Yes, I went out buing too quick. Will try to return it. One feature I will enjoy on the 800 series is the batterysaving, limiting fps in games to save power, and also not generate as much heat.

It does perform better indeed. I suppose if it will be used it will be the maxwell version of 860m. Meaning it runs on very low voltages meaning even less temperatures, so even mroe room for overclocking the GPU. 860m is alone more or less on par with the 770m so yeah, I suppose waiting for it is indeed a better choice. IF it will come of course.

I spoke to DELL. It was no issue canceling my order, they also said the 860 was not out YET. But there is a fault on their Norwegian site showing it.

    "Alienware 14
Leveres med Windows 8, en skjerm på 1920 x 1080 og 2 GB Nvidia GTX 860M-grafikkort."

However, when I chose to config, it states it is the 765 card.

I will just have to wait a bit longer.

Does this mean this year it is just gonna be Alienware 14 r1 with a new gpu the 860m and no r2 until next year ?

Yeah I had the same text on the belgium website. Even though they strictly say nothing about the release of that laptop I think it's a mistaken "leak" for the updated version, not sure though, just a guess. I mean why would they do such a mistake otherwise? Doesn't make sence

About that, I've talked to an alienware rep, and he told me that unlike the alienware 17 and 18 the graphics cards is actually soldered on the motherboard so don't expect an update soon. But this could actually mean, that they might get an r2 of the alienware 14 right now. Again this is just a wild guess not sure about it.

But all I care about is, I want to upgrade my system within 2 months at max. And I definitely want an at least 2.8GHz CPU and a 860M or 870M gpu.

the 700m series gpu doesn't generate as nearly as much heat as the haswell furnace(or the design of our machines is efficient enough to bring away the heat)
my 765m seldom reach 70C even gaming with overclocking to the max
and limiting fps to achieve "powersaving" sounds pointless to me, I would rather not to game at all then playing games with poor performance, but this is a personal thought, some people may actually play light weight games on the go so it makes sense this way
you should go for the 860m anyway for the extra raw power rather than the bells and whistles

Personally, I would wait also. We have no info on any new releases but if you do't need the PC right now (for work or school) then just wait.

Actually those options of ASUS are pretty good too. But I'm still wanting to get a 14 inch laptop. Asus does have the G46 as 14". It has way better cooling than the alienware 14 but it has more other issues.

    1. Hardware VERY old. it has the 660M and a 3000 series i7 processor.
    2. No 5.1 surround sound support through 3.5mm jacks like the alienware 14.
    3. Still has a 900p monitor instead of 1080p
    4. Alienware is more eye candy. (imho).

I don't understand why you went from a 14 inch laptop to a 17 inch one though, those things are pretty uncomfortable if you ask me. And nor did you use it advantage of holding a 880M graphics card

Well my girlfriend has an older G750, and it is ok to have on the lap when I am in the sofa. Also the cooling system does not heat ut the underside of the computer. yes it is bigger, but that is something I can live with. Asus has no gaming laptop on my country under 17".

I went for the 860 because that is a Maxwell chip, while the 870 and 880 is still Keppler, and thus generates more heat.

What is Alienware still doing? Clevo W230SS is shipping out with Maxwell GTX 860m and Razer 14 w/ gtx 870m soon and still no 800m series from Alienware?

Guys I can't see at the alienware's web page about the new GPU configuration, there is only the Nvidia GT 750m and the GTX 765m. The website you are looking at is from the europen site? I'm at the american site.

For the alienware 14. There was on few countries Such as in my case belgium (And I can confirm that it didn't show up on the US site .com) written that it contains the Geforce 860M with 2GB gddr5 Vram. This actually showed up. I even took a screenshot of it see below (not that the page is in dutch, because it's from alienware.be).

But the thing is, even though they wrote that down, it wasn't an option when choosing a graphics card, it indeed still had the options 750m and 765m. So they wrote down something that couldn't be ordered. After 2 days they deleted that message. If you ask me it seemed like a leak. So the alienware 14 is to be expected to have the alienware 860M. But Alienware won't say a single word. Not even any announcements, even though they did a small announcement for the alienware 17 and 18.

They do this pure as a marketing strategy, so that they still can sell the current version of the alienware 14. Untill the very last day before the 860M releases. At least that seems to be the only logical explenation

Oh i see, but isn't the GTX 860m the same as the 765m? I mean, it must be 15% more powerful but why they doesn't include the new GTX 870? the new razer blade 14 can handle it flawless without getting over heated.

that 15% power is not something to be underestimated. First of all in terms of power the 860m is almost as like the 770M. On a second note. the 860M is the only one out of the GTX series that uses the new Maxwell architechture with significantly lower Power usage, and nvidia also has a few new tricks to lower battery consuption. So the 860M is a big step in terms of power consumption and Most of all lower temperatures, which leaves also more room for overclocking, if your GPU is stable enough of course, that's a luck game though.

About the 870M even though if that will be an option many would still go for the 860M for the reasons I Just wrote and it will be also significantly cheaper knowing alienware they will make it damn expensive. But of course if the option is there it will be nice. The more options the better. I might get the 870M one myself then, in the end it is way better performanec.
