Just ordered the M14x r2 today! I had a question concerning overclocking the card however. I ordered the 2GB gt650m and I have heard from other sites and in this video regarding the new Samsung Np700 ( Samsung 17.3" i7 3615QM Nvidia 650 Laptop Review by Paul Nelson - YouTube) that the card can overclock to the gt 660m speeds? Does anyone know if this is true? Couldn't that damage the card though if you overclocked that high? Does it void the warranty if the card fries?

    Thanks!

I feel him it happened to me, a stuck pixel right in the middle of the screen. All the youtube flashing colors in the world didn't fix it. And when I called Dell they had the nerve to tell me it is within their policy of 1 dead/stuck pixel. I ended up returning the machine citing that I wasn't satisfied, the white dot in the middle of the screen was distracting especially when playing fps.

Well, dell finally returned my money. However, Allan is no longer doing any quotes and Dell is not honoring the old quote/discount that I got from Allan. So now I am back to square one.

    I am considering either:

    Samsung - 17.3" Series 7 Laptop - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive - Silver - NP700Z7C-S01US

    (too big)

Or the Clevo W110ER (too small)

Just tell em you have more then 1 dead pixel. When I was receive my brand new m18x , it comes with dead pixel , 2nd replacement defected speaker , 3rd 6970 to 6990 replacement , 4th cpu/gpu overheat issue , 5th perfectly no problem yet.

I read through Allan's thread and it seems to be a temporary stop to quotes while he "restructures". If you want an Alienware, why not wait a little and see if things clear up? Alternatively, if you send me a PM, I can give you a rep that was helping a great deal of NBR members last year (I'm not sure if his discounts are better, equal or worse, though).

Dell technician just left my apartment. They replaced the whole palm rest. Great customer service!

Up and running now, I absolutely love this laptop!

I've installed mass effect 3, battlefield 3 and modern warfare 3 and this laptop has taken everything I've thrown at it and it always puts up constant 60 fps. Was very pleasantly surprised.

Will post pics and some impressions soon guys.

My brothers arrived yesterday, ive been playing with it and im in love with it. I am all but ready to pull the trigger except the screen is holding me back. Im spoiled by the RBGled screen from my Studio XPS and i don't know if i can make the switch =(.

Otherwise great system. 60fps for WoW in Orgimar on Ultra, on Illidan lol. Great system the screen is really the biggest downfall tho.

Just ordered the M14x R2. I've been looking around at the Sager NP6110, Asus G55 and the M14X. I think the M14X hits that sweet spot between performance and portability. That and the cooling seems absolutely great on the R2.

    Specs:
    I7-3610QM
    6 GB ram
    1 GB GT 650M
    900p screen

    Ordered from Amazon:
    256 GB Crucial M4
    8 GB Corsair Vengeance Ram
    Razer Kabuto Mousepad/Screen saver
    Logitech G400 mouse

Can't wait to start bringing this with me on my trips. Really looking forward to D3 (luckily I have a desktop and I'm in town the next couple of weeks).

oh boy am i having a decision of my life. Either m14x or a macbook. Mostly geared towards uni work but gaming on does sound like a neat addition. Also dell has a sick student exclusive that gives you a 200$ egift card i think. what to choose... how long is the battery life when doing simple homework tasks like microsoft words and net browsing with occasional flash videos?

In my experience, the m14x automatically downclocks everything the moment its off the charger. i think itll last you 5 - 6 hours, but dont try to game on it.

    hope this helps!

I was contemplating between the m14x and macbook as well. I'm also starting graduate school soon and probably won't have time to game that much with the exception of diablo 3 and/or guild wars 2. I also need something that has a long battery life. The m14x fulfills all these needs. It's relatively portable, has a decent battery life, and has a dedicated GPU. I paid $1199 for my configuration which has i7 3610QM, 6gb ram (@ 1600Mhz), 500gb 7200rpm hard drive, 900p screen, and 1GB GT 650M. For that same price, the macbook 13 would come with an i5, 4gb ram (@ 1333Mhz), 500gb 5400rpm hard drive, and an intel integrated graphics card. Clearly, both systems are a ripoff but the macbook seems like an even greater ripoff. So I chose to go with the stealth black m14x.

Can any R2 owners out there answer a question for me:

Is the Bluetooth & wifi cards separate, or are they on the same card? I bought my R2 with the Centrino 2230 wifi card, but I want to put a KW 1202 in it down the line, and I do not want to lose BT functionality to do it.

Just received my R2, and I will be cracking it open to check the cards. I'll report back what I find. Hopefully they are separate, but if not and the 1202 comes with BT onboard that should solve my problem.

    Hi,

When my lid is partially open the gap between the base and screen to the left of the hinge id practically touching and on the right there is a 8mm gap.

when shut the screen sits square on the base and gap at back is same.

When fully open the gap is nearly equal but still not 100% equal and not really noticeable.

It seems strong enough and when closed and open no problem question is should i be worried.

    Cheers.

I wanted to provide an update. @DellCares wanted me to send in more pictures of the pixel and said that one pixel is not a reason for replacement. Unhappy with the result, I called Dell Support and the service rep had a tech sent over to replace my screen. Everything is great now.

    Off to play D3.

Good to hear. When purchasing a product you are expecting something specific, if the company fails to meet those standards you use the return policy. Doesn't matter what company it is, if you get a even half a dead pixel you are not getting your money's worth. I am happy they reached out and helped you though.

My opinion is that the R2 is much improved over the R1. My R1 had so many issues and I am not experiencing any if thise issues with the R2. (No more BSOD issues with SATA 3!) Heat is also much improved. I'm not hitting over 70 C while gaming.
