Alienware ship date for the r2 is 28th of may I think. But 'Copperhed' claims to have received one in iPhantomhives reply...

There has however been a benchmark for the 650m, right on par with the 560m, Not sure if it was the DDR3 or GDDR5 version though.

Just ordered mine (stealth black) with i7 3610QM, 6GB Ram, 500GB Hard Drive, 900p screen, and 1 GB GT 650M for $1299.99. However I'm thinking about getting the color changed to nebula red, although that might push the ship date a bit :\

In some of these benches, the DDR3 seems to perform better than the more expensive DDR5. Weird...

Joking aside, that's actually something I was curious about and wondered if they'd made any changes to the glossy screen. It's the one thing that's (almost) putting me off buying one.

I do, however, want one so badly that the devil on my shoulder is whispering 'man up and play in the dark' haha. :D

I immediately put my Green Onion screen protector on, but the screen seems a little but better than the R1, or the fact I had been playing on a T420 with Intel HD until this came makes this seems like the BOMB

For those who already have one, does it still throttle while gaming on battery?

I wanted an R1, but a few issues held me back.

Ooh yeah I was looking at those for the M14x and was wondering whether they were worth the $35. I'm guessing you'd recommend them? Was kinda worried they'd dull picture clarity a bit.

And yeah, totally jealous you have an R2 already. :p

EDIT: Found a great user review of the Green Onion protector here on NBR so no need to get back to me on that. ;)

terpsy can you also talk about temps? If you can also play with the laptop on your legs and tell me if it's an issue or not, I know with my R1 when I play for 1 or 2 hours with the laptop on my legs it's just too hot and it's really annoying, my last question is about the fan noice how is it compared to the R1? Thanks :D

so to those who already have theirs, out of curiosity, what was your ship date? I ordered mine on the second day that it was out and my ship date is on may the 24th, seems like a long time to me (over a month) are they just being really conservative with their production times?

Aqeb , I dont think you should go for the 2GB GT650M. At that resolution , the extra gigabyte wont make a difference. It wont really come in handy unless your connecting 2 or more monitors to it or something :)

I ordered the 2GB version, but for one reason only.. nothing to do with resolution or monitors.

I was just paranoid that the 1GB version might be inferior in some other way (number of shaders, clock speed etc), and at the time there was no way of confirming for definite one way or the other. There are often multiple versions of the same graphics card, and until these things are out in the wild, no-one really knows for sure.

So I spent the £50 to make sure :D

They are the same, same clock speed everything is the same, only VRAM differs I even wonder if 1GB version aren't the same as 2GB version but with 1GB locked.

    To answer some questions :

Noticeably quieter when gaming, you still hear it, but it hasn't been a hair dryer.

WoW - 25 man raids, all eye candy in Ultra, 4 straight hours, smooth as butter, and the sound was really nice as well.

I wouldn't recommend putting any gaming laptop by your "boys" while playing, as it will run cooler then the previous R1, it is still a Gaming laptop in a confined space. The same way you wouldn't put a Desktop CPU or GPU on your 'boys' and they run 1/3 of the heat as a laptop.

Screen I think was the same mirror finish. But, after playing on the T420 and Intel HD for the past couple of weeks, let's just say I never saw a better looking screen than I did when I booted up.

You cannot change the color on the alienhead on the lid of the laptop

Ordered mine on the morning of 4/20, through EPP, went with the base build with the following upgrades : LCD, i7 CPU (Ivy Bridge now, thank you Dell), 2GB 650m (may not be needed, but thought as I am keeping this for a few years, who knows what may wind up being needed). I also got overnight shipping on the unit.

If i missed anything, please let me know, will do my best to answer in between dungeons at this point.

Thanks terpsy! Glad it's running Wow nice and smooth (to be expected), and it's a little cooler than the R1.

If you get a chance to do some benchmarks, then I'm sure a lot of forum users would be grateful :)

I was very pleasanty surprised by Australia's R2; I had come to think of it as expensive, but the latest blew me away.

The highestspecce is $2299 (about $2350 USD) i7-3610 12gb RAM, 2gb 650m graphics, and stunning me, 256gb SSD raid 1 or 512gb raid 0. I was all set for after market upgrade, but I jumped on that instead.

Anyone have an idea of what brand the SSD's are? (An msata 256gb and a 256gb other one).

Curious. What HDD did you order, and if it was SSD, did you get the Samsung P810 or P830?

Anyone else who ordered with SSD, please check this and let us know. We're still trying to gauge how many got out the door with the wrong drive. Early rumblings are very low numbers. Awaiting official details.

M14xR2, M17xR4 and M18xR2 will all ship with Ivy Bridge, regardless of region (even yours), save one exception: the base M14xR2 with Core i5 will remain Sandy Bridge until further notice. I have dozens and dozens of posts up here on this topic.

Absolutely no need to wait. If you choose M14xR2 with Core i7 (not R1), you will get Ivy Bridge.

Got my R2 now :) Build quality seems excellent.. it's my first Alienware.

Not seen anyone post any benchmarks yet, so just a quickie --> 3D Mark 11 P2200

Mine is i5 w/ 2GB 650m. This is stock and straight out of the box.

Hope that's interesting for some of you :)
