So its clear thats laptopmag isn't thrustworthy. So what they are saying about brightness is false? Can anyone confirm that the M14's display is 300nit like Dell says (IPS display).

What dazzy said for the nameplate, and yes, the LED ring on the power supply is still lit near the base of the laptop.

Can anyone who has their AW 14 post their CPU and GPU temps while gaming? I'm about ready to pull the trigger I just want to make sure this laptop doesn't have heating problems like the previous versions

Cant wait to check it out when I get home. Shes going to make me install her M4 SSD in it, then I get to watch her play games..ugh, lol..

To anyone that has received theirs, what is the setup of mSATA + HDD by default? Are they listed as separate drives or are they in raid 0? The official page has it listed as "750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s + 64GB mSATA SSD Caching".

I'd prefer to have the OS installed on the mSATA with data drive being separate.

Just ordered mine today. It took a lot of deliberation between it and the Razer 14".
I currently own the M17x R1 and have never had any big problems.
If the rumors are true about heating problems, I can always buy a nice laptop cooler, which will also help with the typing since most coolers angle the laptop.

Don't worry, its just people who own the old M14x or people who don't like Alienware. How on earth can people have figured out that there are heating problems already? Heating is something that AW have REALLY put effort into this time around... Typical smear campaign by the haters!

Hello, i've recently bought an alienware 14 750gb + 64gb ssd and as you said the system is using it as caching. I'd like to install windows 7 on the ssd and keep the hd just for files and storage but i've no idea on how to do this. Could you advice me?
    thanks in advance!

My friend got the m14x r2 because he liked the old design better. He payed around the same and refuses to do a benchmark, instead he gives me low resolution fps, like 400 on minecraft and 50 on battlefield ultra. In reality he would clock in at around 2000 on 3dmark11; half of what mysfit got.

Ermahgawd someone said a laptop gets hot? What is this blasphemy?

If he grabs the custom vbios from tech inferno and overclocks he can hit 3000- 3200P in 3d mark 11.

I ordered my Alienware M14 on June 13 and it is still in production. I seem to be unlucky considering my EDD is July 18th and I need it by July 14th for college! Hopefully it ships soon!

    @ICNMatt,

Yeah that's what I thought, it was the older versions of the 14'' they are talking about, which is totally true imo. Seems like this time around Dell has done their research on the whole heating issue. I'll probably be ordering my AW 14 soon in the next couple of weeks before school starts. Hope to see more reviews and videos from you guys as the days come up

He won't try any form of benchmarking . I tried to tell him that its for his best interest to make sure that everything is working under the hood, but he still insists that he won't. Then again, hes not very computer savy, as he wanted to put in 12 GB of ram and only got an Alienware because I told him I was.

Order is partially shipped with EDD slated for Thursday. I think i feel a cough coming on. :) If your order is still in production and you have no idea where it is, get into contact with your rep. Its much easier then going through chat or customer service.

I placed my order on the 24th of June (dell.ca) and it just shipped out today. Supposed to arrive tomorrow according to the Purolator tracking (but at the latest on the 16th according to a dell rep).
My EDD is still marked as the 22nd though. Guess I will just keep my fingers crossed. Just curious whats the biggest discount someone has gotten on the Alienware 14? (I got a 100$ coupon code to work, but heard it wasn't unusual for people to get in the range of up to 20% off)

After some research and a well placed call to Alienware-Florida I found out that the heating problems detailed in recent reviews have all come from:
    1. Not placing the laptop on a solid surface, thus not allowing for proper airflow to the underside vent.
    2. Covering the vents and preventing airflow to "induce maximum temperatures" (which I found to be a sickening thing to do) simply to have high numbers for the review.

They have assured me that with state of the art copper heat sinks (Thicker and better quality ones than those found in the M14x R1) and better placement of inner modules to allow for more usage of the vents, temperatures over 100 degrees are highly unlikely. (though, considering our inner temperatures are near 98 degrees, the 102-105 degrees quoted in the notebook check review isn't even that hot; rather, a comfortable warmth.)

The heat problems are, I agree, unfounded by inducing them on purpose or speculation from people who do not support the Alienware brand.

All things considered, I'm very excited to receive my Alienware 14 in two weeks.

    @Chaos_prince,

That's odd because I remember someone earlier posted their CPU temps while running prime95, and I believe the max was 90*C I think. It was either prime95 or 1hr of gaming I can't honestly remember. Can you provide that notebookcheck review on the new AW 15?

I posted my temps earlier in the thread after play some skyrim on ultra. Max temp was 90c without a cooler and factory paste job.

The temps are not all that bad. Elevation makes a difference. All these reviews over exaggerate the temps.

Funny comparison by laptopmag on New Alienware 14 vs Razer 14 video

Razer Blade 14 vs Alienware 14 - YouTube

You can tell both systems look premium and unique in their own way but the guy messed up when he said that the Razer 14 has a slightly faster and better cpu which isn' t true because the razer uses a 4702mq at 2.2-3.2ghz while aw14 uses 4700mq at 2.4-3.4ghz

They also forgot that Alienware warranty is superior with onsite repair and free 2-way UPS ground shipping if needed to be sent away for warranty repair or exchange.

Oh they also forgot to mention that not only the FHD panel that's missing on the razer, it also doesn't have the 72% color gamut and IPS of the aw14

I will be picking mine up this Saturday, if no one has got the bios to you, I will see what I can do. Would there be anything you can do with the vbios for the 765m? If so I can dump that as well.

Also, thanks for everything you do for the community.

EDIT: Here is the direct link from the Dell website if this will suffice for the time being.

Yes, you can add it. But I came to know that it wont come with the screws required to hold the chip if you didn't ordered your 14 with an msata. So, you probably need to find a screw that will fit.

They based the processor speed on numbers 4702 vs 4700. The 4700 is 5 - 10% more powerful. Then again we are talking about laptopmag, they wish everything was a macintosh.
