Have you installed Intel graphics driver?

If not, you should do that first before installing Nvidia driver.

It's BIOS A08 but this is for the m14x R1, you can try the latest BIOS available on our downloads section for your PC. I believe that just reinstalling the video drivers in the proper order and from DELL.com will fix the problem.

Can you see the nVidia listed on the BIOS, on the main page... under discrete graphics?... If not, then try loading BIOS defaults by pressing F9, then press F10 to save and exit... You can also remove the battery of your laptop and AC adapter and press and hold the power button for 1 minute. This will reset everything there. Do you see the nVidia listed on the device manager??

Have you tried modded drivers from laptopvideo2go? I understand that they override optimus. This might help you fixing the problem.

he problem is that I can't even enter the nvidia control panel because it says that there is no nvidia GPU inside the pc
if I go to see if my drivers intalled correctly it says that there were some problems during the installation nd that therefore nvidia gpu cant be used

Looks like a defective soldered nvidia gpu and a mistake by Alienware/Dell. Demand a refund if you are still on the return period window or demand a new replacement. Don't even get a repair for a brand new system, just get a new replacement or a full refund.

Not exactly, it could also be just a software glitch. Optimus is kinda tricky sometimes.

the strange thing is that everything worked perfectly for the first 2-3 days and then, after a win update, all the problems started to appear

Call Alienware tech support and let them troubleshoot your pc. If unfortunately you did a fresh installation and you did not save alienware respawn, then you may be in a soup... All that I can suggest (if you have a bit of tech intuition), remove the back cover, remove the battery by unscrewing 2 screws and unplug it from the system. Also remove the cmos battery and leave it like that for about 10 minutes.

Put everything back together, when you start your pc (power button) hit F2 and check in the bios if you see GTX (the nvidia card). If the card is located in bios and in windows you still face issues, you must be having some software messed up... Alternative is to remove both the drivers (intel and nvidia), start in safe mode, driver sweeper + ccleaner, and make sure in device manager it will show as standard display adapter once you boot back in normal mode. Install intel driver / restart, install nvidia driver / restart. This should help, hopefully.

You know I am having this exact problem. I installed BIOS A09. It for whatever reason deleted the NVIDIA GeoForce 650M driver. I went to the NVDIA Website. It scanned my system and said I needed to download Version 306.97 which I did. It installed without any issues and requested a reboot. Upon reboot right clicking on the desktop no longer shows the NVIDIA control panel but it it is in system tray. Clicking on it gives me the message that my display is not attached to an NVIDIA GPU. In device manager the NVDIA is reporting error 43. I am at at a lost. Thank you!

Well I was online with Dell Alienware Tech Support for a little two hours tonight. He was a very nice guy. He connect to my machine and tried everything he could think of. Tried the Dell NVIDIA driver as well as the updated driver from the NVIDIA web site. Rolled the BIOS down to A08. Used Driver Sweeper, etc. Was not able to clear up the NVIDIA GPU issue. Decided it must be the motherboard (I am not sure that I agree) so it will be replaced. I have noticed a temperature increase. I am kicking myself from here to Austin for ever updated my BIOS.

Dell contracted support was out just now and replaced my mother board. BIOS A09 NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 306.97 pre-installed on mother board. WORKS LIKE CHARM!! Temperatures back down to where they were as well. Thank you Dell for your fantastic Alienware Customer Support!!

Well unfortunately I spoke too soon. About twenty minutes after I posted the everything is great post the mother board crashed. Would not accept ANY type of boot. HD, CD, or USB. Service came out today and replaced the mother board again. They were out of supply of the 2G video so replaced it with a 1G telling me they would swap it out when the 2G were back in stock. When the initial boot happened the NVIDIA card was working. I shut down the machine and moved it into my office, fired it back up and once again am getting the NVIDIA error. I am frustrated beyond belief. What on earth could be going on here?? Thanks.

Happy Halloween Folks! Does anyone know why Dell is being so non-responsive to this issue? I am a big time fan of Dell and am just curious as to what is going on with this issue. There is no official Dell response on the Dell forum sites either. It looks like other models, M17X, are also having trouble with the new bios with secure booting and stuff way over my head. I uninstalled, reinstalled drivers for the Intel graphics, NVIDIA graphics, used driver sweeper until I am blue in the face and this issue will not resolve. And for those conspiracy theorists in the group (I AM from Dallas LOL) currently the M14X R2 motherboards (2G NVIDIA) are completely out of stock. Kinda makes you go hummmmmmmmm.

Dell has released an update for the NVIDIA video drivers for all Alienware systems and graphic cards. I just installed it and it did NOT fix my problem. Also curious it appears that BIOS updates A08 and A09 have been pulled. I imagine that a new BIOS will be coming out soon.

Tried re-installing A09, switching to A08, using drivers from NVIDIA website, from dell website, from windows update, even from the DVD that came along the laptop. Nothing works. I am still stuck with this.

PS: the only solution right now is to buy Windows 8, that's only what I could find. :(
