Hey has anyone tried this latest driver? On Windows 8.1 x64? I'm using the one on the dell site (327.xx) and it's ok but not seeing great performance and apparently this 331 driver can deliver up to 19% performance improvement...

Didn't try them on my 14, previous whql had issues with v-sync not enabled on a number of games that i play, so i went back to previous betas. Waiting for feedback from other users in order to decide wheter to upgrade or not.

i tried it on my 14 (r3), the dell driver 327.45 actually work much better than the 331.65 whql driver. I was quite surprised when I found it out
in some games I've tested the dell driver gave me 5-10 fps more than the whql driver

It seems to vary somewhat by GPU. It works fantastic for M18x/18 owners with the 700 series. Using it with GT 750M and GTX 780M SLI is very good for me with gaming and benching. I would recommend at least trying it with your GT 650M. 331.40 and 331.58 also worked really well for me with GTX 680M SLI.

boost does not work, which in turn disables the 67 degree throttle. it's an accidental bug, so choose what you want more boost or no throttle

i actually like it. coupled with a modded bios, it should be able to overclock pretty good, but without throttling now.

Disabling NVIDIA GPU Boost is a good thing. The 2.0 version brought some improvements, but performance is better without it. Without GPU Boost, you can set the static clocks that you want with NVIDIA Inspector, MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X and stop the dynamic clocking nonsense.

hmm i cannot seem to overclock without a modded bios, at least with the 650m, is this what you mean? If you know a way without doing it that way lemme know!

It's hard to do anything truly amazing with mobile GPUs any more without vBIOS mods. Are you running a vBIOS mod? If not, that may help a great deal.

I tried using MSI but it failed to boost at all - just wouldnt go past the pre-boost speed of 745mHz. With the old drivers where boost works, i get 835mHz + 100mhz overclock with MSI so, for me at least, I have to stick to the old ones for now. Where is this unlocked bios i've been hearing about? Is there one for the R2?

yeah for some reason you need to use a modded vbios (included with an unlocked bios). you can find a guide here on how to do it: M14x R2 A13 Unlocked Bios + Modified Vbios Now Available!

So I downloaded and unlocked the bios with no issues. But that's when I realised im not as computer literate as I thought. Anyone know which options i should change to get better performance?

Also after installing the unlocked bios i can now overclock with nvidia inspector and so far no throttling with the latest nvidia driver (touch wood) :p

most of them you should just leave alone. the defaults are the best.... im getting this weird problem now though.. i cant seem to get past 405 mhz no matter what i do. the card just doesnt go past that clock.

edit: I reinstalled everything... and it kept saying 208 mhz no matter what. so i enabled back bdprochot in bios and its fine now. but yeah that 405 mhz idk what causes it. i think its nvidia inspector related, but not sure

Are u using MSI afterburner to monitor ur speeds? Cuz i get 405 when i use that but i think its a bug. gpuz shows more normal numbers

Try using EVGA Precision X or NVIDIA Inspector instead of MSI Afterburner. (EVGA Precision X is my personal favorite of the three.)

evga precision still has the problem... that damn 405 mhz. when im in game im pulling clocks from hwinfo which shows 1101 mhz (which it should as that the overclock i have it set to) however msi and evga still say 405. inspector and hwinfo report the same clocks and info which is correct.

Ah, so that's a bug with MSI. I was getting really good temperature readings with the 331.65, but I went back to 314.22 because MSI was showing 405 mhz. I thought I wasn't getting full power from the GPU. Now, I wonder if the temps were not reading correctly too. Maybe I'll try the 331.65 or even 331.82 again and monitor with hwinfo.

    hello,
I see, you're discussing nvidia whql drivers, but I can't find a way how to install them. all that i can get - is fail during driver installation.
after many times of uninstalling, cleaning and so more i succeed only in 307 dell driver.
help me please with a link on "how to"
    thank u/

    PS: I'm running win7 on my m14x r2. and I don't want windows 8 at all.

I know this thread is a bit dated now but seems that nvidia has since fixed the bug... and thus brought back the throttling issue. So stay on 331 if you have a an unlocked bios and don't like throttling
