Hey guys, I've been looking over this section of the forum since it began, and just made a profile literally a few seconds ago.

My big question is: Should i get the m14x this July 4th Weekend, or continue to wait until some serious changes are made to the system?

Things that may help you decide:
-I really don't mind when it comes to screen glossiness. That doesn't bother me.
-I am extremely concerned about the changes that took place in BIOS A03. The GPU is underclocked which i can understand and don't mind, but is this even fixing the problem?
-I need this computer to last me ~4-5 years. This includes average things like watching videos, searching the web, doing work, etc. But also HOPEFULLY gaming. I understand that gaming might change enough in the future that any system from this time won't perform well, but it really needs to last at least 3, even if i need to turn down the graphics.
-Battery: Will this computer's battery be limited to 30 minutes by 4 years from now?
-Weight/size/shape is not a factor that will break this computer for me.

    Specs:
    i7 2630 QM processor
    500 GB HDD
    Windows 7 Premium
    900p Res. Screen.
    1.5 gb Gt555m GPU
    No bluetooth
    4GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 Mhz
Advanced Wifi 6250 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO with WiMax
    Everything else is factory.

I WILL NOT BE OVERCLOCKING THIS SYSTEM!!!!!!!!
I may be upgrading this system with an SSD.

    Please Help!

The m14x just came out, i doubt there will be an r2 anytime soon. m14x is a great laptop along with the core i7. The gt555m is a good card, nothing too spectacular, it'll get you by for around a year or so, after that you'll probably have to lower settings on games. The recharge cycle on the battery isn't that long, or so i've read. 300 recharge cycles. That would last you two years maybe, depending on usage. Then you'll have to replace the battery. The battery life for me is 3-4 hours depending on usage. There really aren't any problems, except the down clocking of the gpu in battery mode. But if portability is your issue, consider other laptops as well before you make your final decision. Remember that the m14x isn't great for portability or gaming, it's meant to do both in one system, so it does both quite okay. It's built on those two compromises. screen's pretty glossy, but i like it. In my opinion, id give my m14x 2-3 years before i replace it. Unless you're a moderate to hardcore gamer, you wont be disappointed with the graphic card. Not to say that i am, i just expected a little more out of it. An ssd would be an awesome upgrade, and i'll be doing the same, though the 7200 rpm stock drive is pretty alright for capacity to speed ratio.

Thanks, i agree with the idea that a computer cannot be perfect and will have to be a balance. My question is, would this computer be good enough to play games on lowest quality 4-5 years from now, in your opinion, and it definitely will be fine for regular operating such as doing work and web browsing, right?

I like my m14x, it's actually replacing my Asus G73 and my m11x. It has great portability but more than enough power to play any game on high/medium. I took my m11x to work everyday and now I'm taking my m14x and I think the m14x is well worth the little more weight. I don't think I've unplugged my G73 for over a year, it's powerful but it sure stretches the term "Portable". People often compare the m14x to the m17x and always say "The m17x is more powerful", just let them take that thing to work or school 5 days a week and see how much of a PITA it is. Right now my m14x plays BC2 at 30-70 FPS with everything on high minus the shadows and that's just fine for me. Overall I'd say the m14x is a home run IMO, it has great portability while packing a TON of power for its form factor.

yeah it'll do alright a few years from now. If you look back 2-4 year's from now, people are still using their old computers. My friend still plays bfbc2 on a 9600gt. That came out in 2007 and he gets great fps on medium settings. You wouldn't have to worry much. Personally, i dont spend a lot on notebooks, i.e more than 1500, because i would wanna replace after 2-3 years anyway.
