I'm not sure which are the normal temps on the m14x, I've the 2630 and I'm getting 95° on one core after 2 hours gaming Portal 2, this is normal?... Also, I got 99° playing BFBC2... I need a repaste on the CPU? cuz GPU seems normal, I always get 70°-80°... Thanks for all guys and sorry for the bad english...

The CPU runs hot even with the fan maxed out, but the GPU runs a lot cooler around 60s for me when gaming hard.

Ha! Finally another person who get it to go up to 99C, you're not the only one who get the 99C CPU, me too, and it is in the same game as yours, just 2 hours of BFBC2 the temp jump to 99C (Ref Click Here), and yes a Cooler is a must, repaste also good, but the warranty will not cover it.

For the GPU you had it too hot, my avg temp is 60 - 70.

Hey! This is a screenshot of my m14x after 2hours of gaming (TF2 and Magicka).

Temps were only in the high 70s, and I have no cooler.

Use HWiNFO to view the MAX temp. In 4 seconds (time to exit a game) the CPU slow from 90 to 70

Damn, which cooler can give me great slow-down on the temps?? considering the cost of the m14x I don't care the price of the cooler if will give more life to my laptop.

I use Cooler Master U2, the reason is that you can move the fan around, after I bought a cooler, the temp will usually stay at between 85C - 95C after 1-2hrs of gameplay. The cost isnt too expensive though.

Make sure your GPU and not CPU is handling PhysX calculations, I've heard this drops the CPU temp quite a bit (PhysX is also faster on a GPU anyway)

    WOW you were right !!!

Near 100C temps after 1 hour of mass effect 2.

intense! And I thought that the temps were way lower.. My keyboard is still cool to the touch.

I'm pretty sure the other options let you choose CPU or GPU...make sure it's set to GPU.

Mass effect 2 plays beautifully. I need to find a way to get the osd to show cpu temp. My gpu maxes at 76c and my fps is at 60 consistently. I just need to get a logitech G700 wireless mouse and a anti glare shield and ill have everything I need for now.

No cooler, I always play in a well ventilated area and I try to have the a/c below 74 degrees farenheit when possible. I monitor my gpu temp and I take hour long breaks every 2-3 hours of gaming. When not in use I exit the game and put it in hibernate/sleep. I think a thermal paste upgrade might work better then a cooler.

I also get fatigue to my eyes after a couple hours so that also ensures me to take breaks.

Are you using HWinfo64 as well as your temp monitoring software?

I used HWmonitor at first and my temps were reported as 75C.
Then I used HWinfo64 and my temps were reported at near 100C...

I have coretemp and hwinfo64 installed. Neither show in my osd, even after I try to configure it with msi afterburner. Do you know how to get it to display when in fullscreen?

Enter BIOS and disable the CPU Turbo. I don't think it does much for games anyway.

Hey all - I had a tech come out since Dell suggested I get my heat sink and fan replaced. He also replaced my motherboard I'm not sure why but, apparently my paste was COMPLETELY gone on my heat sink. So he also put thermal paste on my CPU/GPU. Hopefully this will help. Anyone have this done before?

Yea the tech over the phone thru dell ran a benchmark while looking at my CPU temps thru HwInfo and saw that it was getting way too hot. He sent out a replacement heatsink, fan and some paste to a local tech in my area. The parts were overnighted and the tech was on the job fixing my laptop the next day! Can't complain about that.
