I just recieved my m14x, so i began to get the latest drivers from the dell site, but realized that my computer had a few of them already ( because instead of installing i was prompted to uninstall instead.)

Also the display driver off the dell site is 267.21, but the one that my computer came with was 269.37. Im just assuming that the one my computer came with is a higher number, therefore more recent?

Im clueless and dont know how to know if my computer already has its necessary drivers now and im just cluttering up my computer with unnecessary drivers, or if i need to actually downlouad all these drivers. Im about to use alienrespawn for the second time :(

thanks in advance for any help

where do i get those lol...and is it a given that i will need to get all the drivers off the dell site?

why did i not need the accelerometer driver and the alienware controller driver? both prompted me to uninstall not install

darn thanks for the info c69k...repped...where you you suggest a day 1 m14x user to start as far as all the drivers then? Im following batboy's guide, but he uses the link to dell's download site.

i just want to make sure my m14 is running at the most efficient updated rate.

    thanks

What I do is I look at Dells driver download page, and then go to specific sites.

For example Intel chipset driver, Renesas USB 3 driver off Intel site, Processor graphics off Intel site and Nvidia drivers from Nvidia site are the ones (important ones) that are newer than Dell.

I decided to look up each driver separately online, but the hm67 chipset driver isnt even on the intel site, and im not sure if the one off the dell site is even the most recent one, because most of them haven't been updated in 5 or more months.

    duno what to do :(

Well, I dont think you should worry about the chipset, since it is just a driver for windows to recognize it, if you saying that the chipset hasnt been update for more than 5 month, then look at the audio, it is also hasnt been update for more than 5 month as well, yet the current one work like a charm. Beside this is Dell's product so you should be download the Dell's one rather than looking for other, because if anything wrong those tech support not going to take responsibility on that since it is not their driver.

oh ok thanks... i was under the impression that the newer the drivers the more efficient the computer will run.

what drivers should i look for?

don't i need to get atleast the nvidia drivers?

It is best to use Dell's, but one thing though, for the GT555M driver, Dell tend to lack behind a lot, so it is up to you if you want better and more stabiliser driver then download the NVIDIA's, but if you want to stick with Dell, then that also okay.

according to dell the newest nvidia drivers aren't stable and cause the gpu to "crash"...any of you experience this??

@ tmaxx123 No, no problem here. I tried BF3 and MW3 and both games run better than with latest WHQL.

    285.79 are keeper.
