My new Alienware M14 has been lagging on games I know it shouldn't and I don't know what to do. I can't play need for speed the run on anything above medium settings or it will lag horribly. I can't even play Rayman Legends on low settings without it lagging like crazy. I know this laptop is fast enough to play these games on at least high settings without lagging, but I don't know what is wrong. I tried changing the nvidia settings to high performance and updating my drivers, but it still lags. Here are my specs.
4th gen intel core i7- 4700mq (up to 3.4ghz, 6mb cache)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3L RAM at 1600MHz
nvidia geforce gt 750m with 1gb of gddr5
If you know how to fix this please tell me.

I think there is a problem with optimus mode when it doesn't detect gaming mode to switch on Nvidia card and still run on integrated graphic.
As a result, you have got lagging while playing game.
Mine is a same specs with you but don't have that issue.
My issue is different that I cant able to switch between optimus and discrete mode >.<. -
Are you sure you're using optimus? For me, on steam, I have to configure a lot of games to use the discrete graphics manually. When in game, minimize it and see if the Optimus icon lights up...

Have you disabled Optimus). fn-F5, and reboot.
Also, are you on 1080p screen or the 768 one?
Gt-750m may be a little weak on full HD resolution. -

I think we are all on the same page haha. I also believe that the Optimus should be the cause, adding your games to the nVidia's whitelist on the Control Panel or going "discrete only" should fix this issue.

How can I go to "discrete mode"? When I press Fn+F5, I always get " Your graphic solution is automatically configured for optimal performance"....
-
The 750m doesnt have the 2 modes (atleast on mine) so fn + F5 is useless.. Its automatically on.. but for it to work properly with certain games you need to add the game to to a whitelist.
Go to the Nvidia control panel (click the arrow on the bottom right of the screen on the taskbar, right click on the green nvidia logo and click open nvidia control panel.)
Click manage 3d settings then program settings.
Find your game on the drop down list, if its not there click add and browse for it.
After selecting your game, go to "select preferred graphics processor" and change it to discrete"
click apply.
Launch game.
It should now be using the discrete graphics card.reborn2003 likes this.
