Hello all. Great site been reading through recently.

I recently bought an M14x back in June, but shortly after, I started getting BSoD with the original driver from DELL: 167.xx (I think!)..

Anyway, I came across this website after realising that you cannot install drivers manually from the Nvidia website, unless you have a modified .inf file from laptop2go.

I've tried many drivers with games like; Deus Ex: Human revolution, L4D2, Dead Rising 2 etc etc. but these all seem to stutter, crash, exit on me. :(

At the moment i would REALLY like to play BF3 on my Alienware as I've spent a lot of money on this and have been putting this issue off for sometime now and have resorted to using the downstairs PC to play my games.

I really don't want this M14x to gather dust as I love it!

I'm not sure how to recover the error files to show you guys. If someone could help me that would be great.

I do have one screen dump I made recently with the Beta driver for BF3.
This is what happens when I launch BF3:

So would someone be willing to help me fix my driver(s) issues, please? I'm willing to use TeamViewer if that makes it easier for you?

I'm thinking of giving it to a techy shop to try and fix it, this is my last resort.

Argh. Thank you for reading. :)

    - Carl

PS. I'm currently using the 270.61 driver, which crashes also.

    Hello Wiggleson,

First, to be safe, reinstall the stock 267 driver. Use the disk that came with your M14x.

Then head to Laptop2go and download and install driver 285.26
You don't need to mod the .inf, it install with a simple double-click and it's been working great for me so far.

If this works for you, please rep me. ;)

Are you uninstalling the video drivers before you install new/different ones?

Right, it seems my games run fine now.

I tested Deus Ex and that runs smooth, same goes for Black Ops.

I still can't run BF3 beta though. It will launch and i'll see the weapons screen, then it will crash! But thanks for your help, bud.

Yes. I made sure of that, lol.

I've turned off AA and V-sync in the Nvidia control panel, as I think this helped..

I made sure that my steam games were using the GT 555M graphics, in 'Manage 3D Settings'.

But obviously BF3 uses an application called Origin and launches the beta from Internet Explorer, so I don't think there's an .exe I can choose to run manually?

There's a thread here on NBR about the complexities of BF3.
It includes links to a driver specifically built for BF3 Beta.

I think the driver is 285.37 but not sure.

I won't download another driver until I need one and that's why I recommended 285.26, it's been running great for me. I think the 285.37 does NOT require a modded .inf either (always a good thing) so look it up, and good luck mate!

It's 285.38, it's what i'm using at the mo'! But I'm still getting random crashes. I'm not sure what the hell is going on.

One minute the game(s) run like a dream, then the next they crash and recover from error's. Argh.

Even the BF3 Beta driver fails for the actual Beta i'm trying to play! It's becoming a joke now tbh, I shouldn't be having so many issues.

Does anyone know if the sound could be distubing things? DirectX11? As in the top two images I posted it mentions DX11..?

Ok, I removed all Nvidia drivers from my system. Now my M14x is using the VGA standard GPU.

Deus Ex plays pretty well on it, but BF3 fails to play and crashes out..

Here is my error, again it it's the same as before:

Could it be the hardware? Maybe my 555M card is FUBAR? :(

How about try the good old stable one - 275.33 <- this one is the one I found it to be quite stable, never give me any error or problem until I upgrade to the latest BF3 Beta.

However for the 275.33, you need to download the modded .inf, install the driver, let it fail, then copy and paste the modded .inf file to this path (IF C is your Windows Drive) : C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\275.33\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver : Else just change the "C" to whatever drive you install the NVIDIA driver.

Oh btw, Dont post BIG image, Anything over 500x500 should be thumbnailed or linked only read the Forum Rules, The How To is at the second last bullet point.

Sounds like the GPU is acting up, as you get this with so many different drivers. Have you checked the GPU temperature?

Hmm.. no I don't think I have actually. How do I check the GPU temps? What temps should I be getting?

If they're to high, what can I do about it?

    Thanks for helping.

    Hello all.

I recently had Dell Tech. do a fresh install (via Remote Assisstance) of Win7 on my M14x, as I was receiving 'The driver has successfully recovered' errors.

Anyway, I decided to re-install Steam and re-download Black Ops to test out my original 167.xx driver. The game wouldn't boot at all. I just see a BSoD error!

This is really grinding me up the wrong way now, I thought this would fix my GPU issue's.

Anyway, here is my error message:

Not sure what this means... can anyone help? Or is my Nvidia GPU broken..

    Thanks for reading. :)

Why do you keep the original 167 driver?
    Update to 285.26 at least.

    Conclusion
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 267.21 , NVIDIA Corporation)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

I have tried all the drivers, but Dell Tech. recommended that I stay with the original Dell driver and wait for them to update. 'm still getting BSoD errors, no matter what I do.

I had the same problem with my m14x . I contacted and then sent them that dump file . After analyzing they said there is some fault in the motherboard/gpu[because in this model motherboard and gpu is nothing but the whole single part!] Tech support came to my house and replaced the motherboard . I am pretty sure there no problem with the default driver . Since the replacement my laptop is working well no problems at all !!

I live in England, would they send out Tech support to my house if needed?

I hope they fix it! The Tech guy who is dealing with me recently (who has been quite helpful) will ring me again tomorrow to see how I'm getting on.

Obviously not well, lol. I just want to play Deus Ex: HR as I've been waiting ages to play it. Along with BF3, MW3 etc etc.
