I'm trying to upgrade my stock harddrive to the new Seagate Momentus XT2. How can I copy all my files from the old harddrive into the new one and make it function like nothing happened at all? Would the stock Alien respawn be able to do this?

You can try a cloning software such as Clonezilla, Clonezilla - About (similar to Norton Ghost but free).

It seems... complicated from what I've read.

Lol, the Seagate Momentus is actually an SSD. We've been over this so many times. Its not going to run properly unless you have BIOS AO8 or something that regulates it to SATA 2 speeds. And if thats what you want then its NOT a good idea to clone a standard HDD to a SSD. It doesn't work properly

    It will be a mess

I got the M14x with 500gb hd, then I took the 500GB Momentus XT and I cloned the old and new, with Acronis True Image Home 2011, with no problems.

Then I took the Momentus XT2 and I cloned from XT to the XT2 with True Image Home 2012, again with no problems, but the two hd, were similar. ;)

    Ciao

Huh? The Seagate Momentus XT 750GB is a SSHD.

I was reading Amazon reviews on it and many people had problems with it. You seem to be the exception with that product but I'd rather not take the risk.

I've been studying the Clonezilla process so I'll go with that.
