As the above poster said. Sounds like a driver issue. If device manager doesn't come up with anything at all when you plug it in (check extensively), try updating your Intel drivers (the Intel sight has an auto-update finding tool). If it's still not working - get on the phone to Dell

I was unable to get VGA & HDMI working at the same time on my r2, but HDMI & miniDP both work together OK. As for why it's not detecting your display, hmm... Have you tried another HDMI device to make sure it's not that? I also had a problem where my HDMI cable was barely loose, which results in zero picture. Try pressing it in gently and very slightly moving it up and down in the port. If you hear the detection sound, then maybe it's a small flaw in the port or cable. Also try another cable.

This is the major drawback of all digital connections - Any problem at all will shut down the entire picture. With analogue VGA, I had a lot of leeway as a VJ because the pins did not need to be perfect for the signal to pass. VGA would still work, even if the color was wrong or otherwise distorted. Now I have to be sure none of my HDMI cables get bumped and disconnected :[ Always one step forward, one step back!

I tried everything.. Just doesn't seem to recognize my hdmi port... I had the R1 and used the same hdmi cables and tv's and it connected fine , so once I got my R2 , used the same cables to test it and the tv's didn't recognize that hdmi was plugged in at all, literally nothing happens when I connect my hdmi port from my r2 to my tv... no idea what I should do.. guess I should call alienware support. what a shame =/

Right click on desktop - select Nvidia tools - select (dunno in english) additional monitor configuration - check the box for your device on the hdmi port - right click on the box with the numbers in circles below if the display shall be cloned or advanced - save options....

    ....problem solved.

nope.. afraid its not that simple heh.. it doesn't show that anything is connected via hdmi.. nothing happens @ all when it's connected.. i have the stock 296.16 drivers for the nvidia card and the new drivers for the integrated intel .

Well then its probably a hardware issue. Check cables and try if the monitor works on other notebooks / pcs.

If its definetly not the monitor(s) maybe this little thingy is broken:

    HDMI Repeater Chip.jpg

If so you need a mainboard replacement im afraid :(

But its only a suggestion it could be many broken connections not certainly this one. Maybe (<-again) its the HDMI port which is broken and not the chip.

I dont think its software based since you said the drivers are working and normally it should work plug and play.
