Guys my screen is all messed up. It gets dirty so quick. There are lines from the keyboard when I close it and touchpad that remain on the screen. I tried everything, such as windex, alchohol and water, but it's still there.

I also get these little lines but they are easy to clean.

The problem is the smudges the keyboard and touchpad leave. They seem permanent. Can you guys recommend a good home appliance to deal with it?

My monitor gets dirty quick and so does the top of my keyboard *area with the alien head*. I can't find a way to clean it.

Please help purify my dirty dirty laptop. Thanks. :(

Thanks for the help but I have tried water and it does not seem to get rid of the smudges. Are they here to stay or can they be removed?

I use a microfiber cloth and some cleaner for my glasses. I put a little of the cleaner on the cloth and then use it to clean the screen. You could also try some of the wet wipes that are sold for computer screens. You can get something called a Shaggymac, a thin cloth to place between the keyboard and screen when you are not using the machine. It can help to prevent any further smudges on the screen. I have one and it works great.

I tried microfibre cloth with the liquid that came with it. It cleans everything up except the 2 lines made by the keyboard on closing. I really dont know what will clean it off. I've tried almost everything. Really hope it isn't permanent.....any more suggestions?

I have the same issue, I can only see the lines from the keyboard when the screen is off but still I would like to know how to safely remove them.

I don't think the lines you get from the screen + keyboard contact is easily removed, I have the same issue on my M11x R3 and no matter how much I clean the screen and the keyboard before closing it, won't go. ):

This is the best way to avoid this.

That's helpful but how about for the people who already got smudges? How can we remove them??? I tried everything!

I was going to buy rubbing alcohol. and try that, or have you already?

I think it's a bit of a design flaw that smudges rub off on the screen under normal use tbh. I only put my laptop in its sleeve and in a backpack so I don't think any ridiculous amount of pressure is applied.

It looks like it's the white part of the keys that is rubbing off on the screen, maybe there is some chemical from the keys?

Since this thread is about cleaning Alienwares, I suppose it's not too off topic if I mention I'd rather they used some more grime-resistant materials on the thing.

I like soft-touch material to an extent, but I'd rather they kept a matte exterior that wasn't rubberized. That way they could also bring back the awesome Lunar Shadow (silvery-grey) color they had on the original M11x and M15x. I'd rather confine soft-touch materials to the insides, or something.
I've always liked the feeling of matte plastic or paint in the hands, really. As for rubberized exteriors - well, after my G73 I guess I'd have preferred a change.
Sure, soft-touch isn't actually all that easy to grime up, but from what I see (a retail display M17x I saw in Stealth Black had a small hole in the rubberized exterior) and hear (comments etc.) the surfaces on the latest generation M14x and M17x don't resist wear, tear and gunk all that well.

The other thing is that plastic (...if it's actually glass do correct me) they use on the screens. I'm really not all that upset about only offering a glossy option (since lots of the industry does it, but no I hate glossy screens myself), but the edge-to-edge look really gets spoilt quickly when Alienware is using plastic that is a total finger-print lover! And easily scratched! At least use oleophobic and scratch-resistant glass. This is a notebook that costs hundreds more than other comparably configured machines, rizzakes - I'm willing to pay a little brand premium, if I see the extra money going to touches such as this. Things that are small matter to me.
Yeah, Alienware. Use some high quality, scratch-resistant oleophobic glass (Corning Gorilla Glass, anyone?) with matte options. Your customers will like you more for it.

I also had this problem, my screen also developed few permanent smudges from the keyboard and the mouse pad. there was no solution to remove the smudges. I called up dell and got the screen replaced under Accidental Damage Protection. After I got the new screen I have been using a sheet of paper or a piece of cloth to cover the cover the entire keyboard and palm rest area, and now the screen never had any smudges. hope you can get it replaced. just tell them that there are some smudges on my screen because of the keyboard and which is a design fault.

    Eek.

    1. To prevent lines on the screen in the future, you can purchase a microfiber cloth such as a ShaggyMac and place it over your keyboard when you close your lid for the night or travel. This will prevent keyboard marks and possible scratches.

    2. You should NEVER use Windex or Alcohol. I cannot stress this enough. It will eat away at your screen. Use water instead :)

    3. Water with a microfiber cloth will do the trick. Make sure you don't use toilet paper/kleenex/napkins, as those are derived from wood and it will scratch your screen over-time.
