    Hi,

I tried using search function and come up with nothing in for Alienware M14x...it does not seem to be working right now. I have installed correct driver from Dell's support and downloads site. I also verified that it was enabled in the bios and that my bios was up to date per Dell's site. There was another thread from back in September on this site for this very problem but still not helping me out.

The media card reader is not showing up in my computer area. There are no exclamation points when I go to my devices for this. The only way to see the drive is to hold the sd card in all the way until computer recognizes it but once I let it go and get the clicking sound, it stops working again. It still shows up in my computer but when I click on it to view my files, I get an error telling me to please insert a disk into POLAROID (F).

As long as I hold it in when first inserting it into the drive, it works fine but as soon as I let it go, it goes away. Please advise as I should not have to hold it in and only be able to use one hand to try and view/transfer my pictures over to my hard drive.

    Thanks, Roy

    Possibility :

    1. Memory Card Problem.
    2. Media card reader's connector gold pin are not able to reach the memory card.
    3. Media card reader soldering has loosen.

That pretty much paints the picture here. Make sure the memory card is supported by card reader. different card= different size and not all sizes fit the connector inside the card reader. If the card is supported, try using an adaptor to make it fit. If that fails too, you last resort is to call for replacement as the spring mechanism that holds the card securely inside the card reader is not working properly.
If it calls for replacement, your whole motherboard will have to be replaced as card reader is soldered on main board.

Okay, thanks for your replies. I already am using an adaptor as it is a micro sd card to start. It is in my camera which only uses reg size sd cards...not micro.

have you tried using a different adaptor? If possible try a different memory card just to make sure the problem isnt isolated to the card you are currently using
