Hey I bought an Alienware M17xR4 before going to university, I was pleased with the product, however I really could do with something smaller for Uni, of course I didn't really know how it would cope till I got there.

I really don't want to be stuck with it. Not to mention the money would be better spent. However my policy ran out yesterday, is there anyway to return it? I don't mind paying shipping fess and such,I just don't want to be stuck with something I won't particularly use.

if your out of the return phase I don't think there is much you can do. However, if its still in great shape you could probably get "close" to what you paid for it on Ebay.

    I agree with Defengar.
Try to find someone who will buy it from you, maybe not on e-bay, but in your own University.
However, you won't receive the same amount that you spend on it :)

If you can't return it to Dell and you really don't want to keep it, selling is your only option. Ebay obviously takes a large cut of the final price reducing your return. You could also consider selling it here on NBR..no final value fee and you know that people looking at the marketplace could very well be looking to buy a machine like you have. Bear in mind that location plays a big part in selling here - most members are based in the US so if you aren't, you want to make that clear. Here is a link to the Marketplace:

If you're going to take a loss on it, consider spending the money you would lose on selling it to buy a cheap laptop that is smaller if that's your primary goal. Not sure where you live, but there are some cheap cracker box laptops available for $300 or $400 at places like Wal-Mart, or you could buy something used that is a better machine for about the same. Since you have been pleased with it you may regret selling it. It's difficult to use a powerful machine for a while and then start using a slow pile of trash. You could put it away for gaming and other things that a smaller and inexpensive laptop is incapable of doing well. I hate to see anyone take a loss on something, especially if they like it. Computers are like cars... the moment they leave the place of purchase they are instantly worth considerably less than what you paid for them. Unless you find a sucker willing to over-pay or purchased the M17x R4 for far less than what it is worth you're going to take a pretty big hit on selling it... possibly even less than the current Dell Outlet price. Many people are not willing to pay anywhere close to new price for a machine that is not brand new.

To be honest I would just keep it haha. But if you need to sell it you can get a couple hundred off and sell it on Ebay or even on the marketplace forum here :)
