I received my M14x about 2 weeks now and I have an annoying issue with it. Whenever I tap on the touchpad, I can hear popping sound from it. The question is do all your M14x touchpad has this kind of noise comes out from your touchpad or not?

    No they do not!

I currently have the M14x R1 and I had the same issue. For the amount you pay you should give them a call and see if they can replace the chassis. They did this for me however I am still displeased with their service so I requested a refund. To be honest I would heavily recommend getting a refund for that system and taking your business elsewhere. I can give you some recommendations of companies depending on where you live!

That's not normal, maybe the touchpad is not properly fitting and we would need to check on it. Please send us an e-mail to [email protected] with your service tag and phone number and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

    @Luis Porras,

Just out of interest do you know why Alienware send out so many defective units? I have heard and personally experienced many issues with the build quality of your laptops. My laptop has had numerous issues leading to 3 visits from tech's ultimately causing me to query a refund.

I apologize for the inconveniences that you had with the machine, if you are still experiencing issues you can send us an e-mail to [email protected].
You will always hear more complaints than good things on any product. People who don't have problems normally don't post how good their machine is doing.
That might be the reason why you see more complaints than good thoughts.

I disagree to be honest, I have seen many posts of happy customers both with Alienware and other companies. My own experience has lead me to understand that Alienware doesn't seem to prioritize quality control leading to such mistakes which causes many customers to feel cheated. I understand that many will complain on sites like these however if such issues where dealt with properly many people wouldn't feel the need to warn others. The M14x feels like a rushed system based on heating issues many people have mentioned and with the weak and loose chassis.

At least in their defence, they're not HP who will not only send you a faulty laptop with a bad warranty

Eddie, Luis has a point. When your watching the news, there's a reason people say bad news sells. It's because it does. Bad news doesn't just get spread and gossiped it gets built up into something it's not too.

For instance, do you know how many people I see lurking on these forms that have accounts that are 4 years old and only have a handful of posts? People that are part of the community and happy with their products but keep to themselves?

And as orphyn says, their warranty is excellent and they will cover any issues quite quickly.

It not just Alienware, the reason to that is that this is the place where people who have problem will be here complaining or asking for solution. So if you want to see some compliment on these laptop I'd suggest you go to Alienware's product page, I guarantee you would see it more than here, else you come to the wrong forum. And not everyone who have problem with their laptop all the time, there are some who are lucky got their problem free laptop while some get lots of problem, however eventually it will be fine once you know the problem and fix it up, this is just how the computer world's working so get over it.

As for me I do also have problem with my R1, but after a motherboard replacement, I never have any sort of problem, not even a BSOD since then, and better than that, I can do heavy OC (look at my GPU clock in my sig), I can OC past most people's GPU limitation without experiencing unstable clockspeed nor a crash which is a very good experience for me. These problem are actually consider few for if you build yourself a Desktop, since that will be completely random and you wouldnt have any warranty to cover since you're DIY, so consider yourself lucky that Dell allow you to have both standard warranty and the accidental warranty and the ability to extend it.

For me I glad that now AW seem to take action to all those feedback and send people to these forum to help out, because back when I first bought the laptop, the only people I knew of that is from Dell-Alienware is Chris and Bill, and now there are Luis and Frank and a few more that I dont remember their names. However, I'm not too sure on how many other company representative that care to come here, make an account and interact with their customers and ask for feedbacks.

All I'm saying is the amount of people, regardless of if they are complaining, seem to always have to have something replaced in the Alienware laptops. Be it a motherboard, graphics card, RAM, or heat sink. My understanding isn't from the people that complain but from the people that exclaim about how they have had to have many hardware replacements. Surely you yourself must notice how many people have said "been having problems" then posted later "sorted now Alienware replaced my ______". That's the only reason why I asked how so many defective units get sent out.

I have had things replaced with Alienware yes. I had the screen replaced with the wrong resolution and was told I'd receive a phone call... I didn't.

When I asked why I didn't get a call I was told "I dunno (followed by an awkward pause for me to say something)" to which I had to prompt a re-visit.

My touch pad was making similar sounds to the one described in this thread when I first got it.

When one of the tech's came out and replaced the screen again he mangled up the heat sink.

I understand that these issues and lack of problem solving could be an isolated incident however, as I have said before, regardless of complaint people do seem to mention some form of a hardware replacement at some point with Alienware which is something I personally regard as rushed quality control.

From what you guys have mentioned you've had brilliant customer service, be this because the UK Alienware support team is bad OR my issues (and many others that have reason to complain) are "isolated" issues, it still doesn't change that fact, of which you have proven yourself, that hardware replacement with Alienware within the first 4 or 5 months of use seems to have occurred with at least 40% of their users.

As I cannot speak for the technical assistance of Alienware branches outside of the UK I cannot speak for Alienware as a whole, I accept that was my mistake. However this doesn't change the sheer degree of hardware replacements that they undergo.

This is pretty much a site for technical help mate, there isn't much reviewing going on in the Alienware section, people come here for tech help most people know what they're talking about.

I consider myself something of an expert on computers and I still came here when I decided to buy Alienware, and I don't regret it. The people are fantastic; going back to what I said before, it's easier to find the negative then the positive, for example, I ordered my unit on the 12th, was told it would be delivered on the 22nd, I got a call on the 21st saying there would be no delivery's made on the Friday, fair enough, it was pushed back to Monday the 25th, I'm not happy about it but I understand it, it's not Dell's fault and I'm not complaining.

The plus side is, I've met a fantastic community and made some friends during my time entering the Alienware brotherhood, the customer care screwed me around a bit yeah but overall they've been fantastic, the fact that they actually called me and told me it wouldn't make it till the Monday, how many company's would actually take the time to do that? Dell's the first for me.

Totally agree mate. Although, I am unlucky that I had my HDD corrupt on the first day, when I call them they was quite nice and rush to replace it. Plus, double luck is the HDD corrupted twice and I have the motherboard replaced but I'm still please with the customer service that they arranged because they are quite fast. But, I'm now a bit down because of the touchpad problem :( . Going to call them after the weekend so the problem should be fixed :D

Thanks you so much. Someone has already call me to replace the laptop. You and they are very helpful. I must say that Dell surely has excellent customer service.
