Well firstly I was going to get the m11x r3 but they removed the choice of the i5 turbo boost CPU on the alienware website, basically forcing you to go for the i7 which means the m11x ends up working out at the same price as a stock m14x.

So my questions are basically, how much fps can I expect to gain with the i7 compared to the i5 since the i7 is a extra £180 pounds or $276 dollars. Is it really worth it since I have heard that the GPU will bottleneck the laptop before the CPU does, I will mainly be using it for games, such as WoW, league of legends and single player RPGs (Im not really a RTS guy). Future proof does not bother me it will only be used for a year and a half before I go to uni and buy a top of the range alienware.

The core i5 is a decent processor for the m14x. I have the 2630qm core i7, and yeah it's great, but there's nothing too bad with settling for the core i5 version. The CPU doesn't really affect fps. It just can't be a bottle neck, then it would affect gameplay. So better CPU doesn't really mean better gameplay as long as it's not a bottleneck, so the core i5 is decent.

It also depends what you plan to do with said laptop. If you are doing any kind of heavy multi-tasking or photo editing etc. then the quad would be better. If just for games, youtube, facebook etc. the i5 is much better suited.

You'll get very minimal FPS boost going from an i5 to an i7. Unless it's a really CPU=heavy game like GTA 4. If I were you, I'd stay with the i5.

I only see performance difference in my i7 in video/photo editing. Otherwise I see little to no difference between the i5 vs i7.
