i installed a05. the fan is less loud now, but when i play black ops or bfbc2 or anygame, it lags like crazy. i whitelisted them and it still lags.
normally, when i play games the fan used to be LOUD, but now its low. its like its not using the NVIDIA gpu or something, or not using the CPU to the max. help!
whats worse is, my m14x LAGS on minecraft max settings! !
EDIT: I FLASHED back to BIOS A03 and it STILL lags! HELP PLEASE!

they just added more spin cycles instead of just kicking straight to loud when the computer hits 60c.
im playing crysis 1, deus ex and red faction armageddon. they all seem to be running ok.

Didnt you just have This thread? Forum Rules -
Please wait a reasonable amount of time before bumping posts, at least 24 hours.

Anyway Have you try setting your power plan to high performance with the minimum CPU usage of 100% Max 100%? And Basically everything should be set to Max. However what kind of setting are you? Are you set it to like Max everything? Because on BFBC2 I dont set my setting to max everything though, I use custom which is High on everything except for Shadow (Medium) and Bloom (Off, set in My Document under the setting.inf in BFBC2 folder).

Also try overclock your GPU, the reason behind my smooth performance is I OC it from the stock clock to 701/1402/1000. So try it, I use MSI Afterburner.

I dont think it is, try OC it, it doesnt hurt your GPU as long as you dont OC it too much and if the temp is under 85 you'll be fine, plus it design and built for OC, if it isnt, nVidia wont bother to have the OC option.

Yeah, as long as the temp (Average) is under 85C, then it is fine, most people here OC it to somewhere around 700/1400/1000 (Core/Shader/Memory), mine is 701/1402/1000 (because I cant slide it to 700 lol) and the average temp (Without a laptop cooler is between 72C - 75C, with a cooler is 65C - 70C)

Oh yeah, it make much much different, in BFBC2 before I OC, I cant play on High (Everything except for shadow), but after I OC, it go really smooth, the refresh rate cap at 60 when idle, 40 - 50 when in combat, 20 - 30 when you're in an intense combat like destroying a building or blowing hell lot of C4 at once.

    Is This Satisfy you?

.Txt File for Benchmark: View attachment Benchmark110904235802.txt

If you wonder how I do this, then copy this commandline to your GTA4 shortcut at the "Target" area, and it will look like this:

    "D:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -width 1600 -height 900 -refreshrate 60 -availablevidmem 8000 -percentvidmem 100 -nomemrestrict -norestrictions

I done this with the nVidia 275.33 driver version, so I'd also suggest you try it with that version to see if you get the same result. +rep if you find this helpful as I spent some of my time doing this, since I have uninstall it.

You have probably messed up the nVidia drivers, installed one that is not Optimus compatible.

fan does not stop spinning on A05
    shorter battery life on A05
Games from steam does not use nvidia gpu
sound and video gets disortion randomly (if i turn off firewall then it stops)
    slow startup on A05
slow alienfx startup (takes like 30secs-1minute for it to start) and slow alien command center (about 10-20 secs) when i click the program

    more coming for sure. =(
if you know how to solve these problems help me pls!

UPDATE: i installed moded 275.33, and it works kinda better now! it lags less, but the performance is still crap =( LOOK
    Statistics
    Average FPS: 28.21
    Duration: 37.00 sec
    CPU Usage: 67%
    System memory usage: 46%
    Video memory usage: 100%

    Graphics Settings
    Video Mode: 1600 x 900 (60 Hz)
    Texture Quality: High
    Shadow Quality: Medium
    Reflection Resolution: Medium
    Water Quality: Medium
    Texture Filter Quality: Anisotropic x16
    Night Shadows: High
    View Distance: 100
    Detail Distance: 50

compared to urs CGSDR, i have a lot lower FPS, my cpu and system memory is lower, my settings were lower and got a lower FPS! this doesnt make sense! BTW, my GTA 4 is from Steam...

flash bios back if you can
install the lastest driver 286.26 i think. for me its been cracking with my games.
the steam games that arent using gpu whitelisting them, searching for the exe file and trying that way. right click and select it to run gpu.
slow startup try looking in process/applications and disable stuff that you dont need runing on start up.

if you really are that unhappy speak to dell and get a replacement.

Maybe it is because of Steam, as I know most Steam game even if you whitelist it, it wont play on the GT555M, as for my GTA4 version, I have the disc version, and that maybe the problem as well. But it is working fine or better than before? And what is the driver version you using before you install the 275.33?

Did you download GPU-z and CPU-z to make sure that in-game your GPU and CPU were near 100% load? and also ensure that the integrated isn't kicking in? You're plugged on charger with "Max performance" hardware settings?

All else fails, use the alienspawn and get back to out-of-the box settings.

what are your temps on CPU AND GPU? (download hardware monitor) I Know my CPU got to near 100C on my i7 2820 and battlefield BC2 just started to LAG and run slow and after 5min going nearly past 100C, it froze.

Again, all else fails, hurry up and return it if your still under the 21 day policy.

i am going reflash A05 again, see if it changes anything. i am happy with 275.33, because GTA 4 works on it, so i wont be changing to 280.26 (the one i used before) for startup, it used to be fast on A03, and startup for alienfx and command center too. HOW LONG does it take for YOUR alienfx to startup guys?

i used to have 280.26, now im using the 275.33. on 275.33, i can play at almost max settings, but it lags a bit. i think its nvidia problem, because comparing ur settings to mine, mine should have higher fps since i put the settings lower than yours!

Oh good, the 275.33 is the best so far for me, for the startup of AlienFX I do sometime having problem of it doesnt lit up usually for the ALIENWARE logo and the grill/vent-like thing, but it will restart itself after few second, but I never had any problem with the startup of Command Centre though, maybe you should have a reinstall it, download it Here

I'm not sure for this but everytimes I run any game I will turn off any unnecessary program to free some memory then start the game, but you might want to try the GameBosster program - it is for turning off some unnecessary program that can be turn off both the System process and normal programs safely.

By the way, there's an EDIT button for you to edit your post, dont bump your post unless it is inactive for more than 24hrs, plus for some reason this is maybe an act of bumping post for post-count.

When playing games that launch from Steam, OP. Make sure you whitelist the game's exe file. Whitelisting steam.exe to use the GPU does NOT mean your games are going to use the GPU. Steam stores the game files in the "steamapps" folder inside your Steam installation directory. If a game isn't getting auto-detected and listed in the Nvidia control panel, add it manually. I'd have to look at my machine, but I think I set steam.exe to use the Integrated Graphics since it doesn't do any 3D rendering. Having steam.exe set to GPU might make your laptop run at a higher temp and cause your cooling fan to not slow down.

--We really need a sticky about the whole "whitelisting" thing. People are just NOT getting it.

You can use HWMonitor or OpenHardwareMonitor or Real Temp to get the temp of CPU, GPU, and your HDD. But I found that OpenHardwareMonitor is the best since it update the temp once every 1 sec, while HWMonitor does only every 2 sec and Real Temp is varies between 1-2 sec. Plus for OpenHardwareMonitor, you can set it to run on startup, so will it measure the temp from the start of the computer, and also you can have it to list the temp as one of a gadget on the desktop.

i thought your GTA troubles were because of temperatures, (use "GPUZ" to check the GPU activity and "Core temp" is good also for temp checkings)
check when you run GTA4, as i said in another thread i get not more than 30 fps in benchmark and i did the bench under cold environnement with big fan in front of the laptop and i get 36 fps

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...er-m14x-heat-gaming-thread-3.html#post7922005

my cpu is at 99°c so fast, i wonder what is wrong and why they didn't take the 2 minutes to make a good pasting job :(
