I got the chance to look at a real life M14x in person today. My father wanted to pick up a new toy for his hobby so we went to the Microcenter in the area too. They happened to have an M14x and an M18x on display and I got the chance to look at them. It's aggressive looking, built like a tank, and the keyboard was really comfortable to try out. I even got to change the logo from light blue to yellow  This was the first time I have seen an Alienware laptop in person and it blew me away. If anyone is considering a gaming laptop and can afford an AW, my first impression is that I would highly recommend it. When they refresh the M14x I will probably get one. I have heard some negative things about the M14x but they all went away as soon I touched it. If anyone has any thoughts feel free to share them with me. Right now I am kinda tired because I drove almost 90 miles today :(

Even if you don't need the lights it's a well built and fairly portable machine. It felt kinda heavy at the store but probably because it was chained down. Unfortunately I know the R2 won't be anytime soon but I figure it will have massive improvements to this one. It might be on par with the GTX graphics cards out now but not have the potential to crash like the M14x did when it first came out. As for the 90 miles, yeah it's true. To, in, and from the city. I should have just taken the train but there is no stop anywhere near where I needed to go. It was not in the middle of the city but one of those towns right outside it.

Yeah they are well built powerful machines. Because of their power though you will suffer in weight and also heat especially since theres so much power in a small chassis. But for someone whos looking at a AW you have to be aware you are paying quite a bit for the name and will generally cost more than a alternate machine with equivalent or even better spec.

More like 2 hours though and some of it was city and some of it was highway. These roads around here are pretty wild at times. Thankfully the city was not NYC on Black Friday.

Anyway I get that the brand name is something you are paying for yeah, it's just that what alternative do I have that is portable and a solid gaming machine with the battery life. Also, the college I am planning on attending has ties with Dell and they offer a package for a Latitude with a 3 year warranty for $1200.

As for AW, I have a small chance to get 17% off because my mother has coworker who has a son (yea, that's how it works sometimes) willing to possibly loan me their Dell employee discount. He works for a security company owned by Dell. AAA also has a few discounts too, but not for AW :( I would just assume get a Sager NP8150 but I don't need the unholy power that thing possesses with the 6990m or the 580m, especially at the cost of mobility and battery life. Besides, I do like how the AW looks so I might as well get the one with the better battery life, looks, and portability.

Me too, however I get to see it in some YouTube videos reviews, not company reviews like from Cnet because I think they are bit biased (IMO Only) I watch those users review.

The price is fair. I got mine at 1300$, free shipping, with bag and mouse.

Edit: After checking the specs, it's not a very good buy. You get the lower-end screen, and the i5.
For 100$ less I have the i7 and the 1600x900 screen (a must have). 8 Gb ram is useless, plus it's 1333.
It's about 300$ overpriced. Wait for deal from Dell.com and you won't have to travel 90 miles.

Oh ok then. Well if you order directly from Dell you pay $1,200 base and can upgrade it to around $1600 maxed out. If you get it from there you pay $1400 for no upgrades, $200 more than base from Dell?

Haha I'm glad somebody called out on this. I once drove 18 hours straight. And it's a 500 mile drive to see my gf right now... So your 90 miles can suck it! :p

Ahh but I know someone who has to commute 91 miles every single day to and from work (thankfully not me). 182 miles per day just to get to work and home again. Those are one time trips, so your 18 hours can suck it! :p

Thank you Kimojo, I appreciate that. I was planning on ordering it from Dell.com possibly with a 17% discount if I can get my hands on it. Not going to be for a long time though :(

You mentioned the keyboard. Besides a Thinkpad I think the M14x is the second best keyboard I have ever used. Solid!

I agree with this. The M14x keyboard makes other laptop keyboards feel like toys.
