    Hi guys,

I love the look of the m14x and I am seriously contemplating getting one. The only thing scaring me off is the fan noise. Now if I am sat in my office on my own I dont care how loud the fan gets but I very often sit on the sofa with the wife and play the odd game whilst she watches TV.

Now I know the turboboost on these SB cpus massively up their TDP which obviously increases temps and fan noise.

Could somebody please disable TB in bios and let me know if the fan noise is a lot lower whilst gaming?

major appreciation and rep for anyone who has the time to try this for me.
    Thanks

Just so you're aware, "gaming on the couch" better include the power cord, because the GT555m is all but useless on battery power.

It's not that loud. Pretty sure she won't even notice it if she's watching tv. The fan sound isn't annoying anyways. To me at least.

What games? I play BF:BC2 with no problems on a/c power, and can hardly get 8fps on battery.
3dmark06 on battery is around 4000, compared to 13500 on a/c power.

I can game on battery, yea it's limited because of the power draw, but I can play minecraft, portal 2, and MW2 just fine on battery

thanks a lot guys. I do plan on trying to undervolt the gpu and capping the cpu at about 70% for sofa gaming and expect I could get over an hour like that?
But I dont mind having the power adapter handy, its only the noise that would be an issue as I can see me getting the laptop shoved somewhere the sun doesnt shine if it interfered with eastenders!

Is this running the latest BIOS firmware? or did you also underclock your GPU? or just run on balanced?

Fan was... well full blast basically ( I dont notice it as i wear g930 headset) overclocked gpu... just set it to 90% max 90% min cpu usage on battery

have to go home to check clocks i think it was at 730 core 1140 memory and 900 shader....

but it worked flawlessly if you check for stevexowens I have fixed gaming on battery... Please do not repost in other forums - Page 4

    -all credit goes to him......

Remember your still getting higher performance on battery than the standard performance of the m11xR3 (non-oc) on battery for gaming on the go

3dmark score of 10k and 3dmark11 score of almost 1400
