In 4.5 hours of downloading I am only at 11% :( so maybe if all of you could just stop downloading until mine is finished that would speed things up for me...

You guys had me concerned about getting the data in a timely manner, so I pre-ordered it ten minutes ago.

I'm already at 9% down, with a constant 1MB/sec speed. Almost wish I'd waited to see if Amazon had a digital download deal the day of. However, I don't do many day-of-release purchases, and Oblivion gave me months of solid gameplay, as did Fallout 3, so I'm willing to give this one a go.

Not playing it on my laptop, these are my desktop specs (I'm pretty sure I can crank it up to max :))

    Core i7-2600K @4.1GHz, GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD5, 4x4GB G.Skill RipJaws PC1866
Corsair 650D case, Seasonic X750 Gold PSU
WD `Raptor 600GB boot, WD Caviar Black 1TB data, 2x NEC 7200 DVDRW
    XFX 6970 2GB, Hauppauge HVR-1800, X-Fi Titanium, Dell 2407WFP

1GB/sec would be 8Gbps, which would cost a fortune.

In which I would've used that money to get the m17x instead.

@dragon - with that logic you could have just got dial up and went with the m18x x SLI 580s.

    He said 1Gb/sec.

I count that as a gigabit(Gb) per second, not a gigabyte (GB) per second.

Gamespot reviewed it at 9/10 and I think X-Play will give it a 5/5 by the way Adam Sessler and Blair Herter were talking about it.

Wow, I cannot really do that much testing atm, but with initial looks at the game, at high settings, I get an average of 30fps, that oscillates from 25-40fps. Surprisingly when your outdoors, you get more fps than indoors.

Also I have no overclock other than turboboost.

Hmm, I'm running an m14x, brand-new, and on Medium settings, 1600x900, I'm getting 39-40fps constantly. It seems to dip whenever there's heavy-duty lighting going on, so I think that's going to bear some looking at. Running at High, eh? We'll see about that... :)

    What's turboboost?

    Loving the game, too!

Yea because you can really trust Gamespot to provide objective reviewing. If they gave Modern Warefare 3 an 8.5 when the average user score is 5.6 or lower, then Skyrim should have gotten 15/10.
Also as an update I am at 85% :(

turboboost is the CPU overclock that comes stock when u buy m14x. there is probably a proper term but i dont know it.

It runs perfectly on medium. So I can confirm DoomMunky statement. Though for it to be as smooth on High settings, you would need to overclock your GPU.

All I know is that if this m14x with everything upgraded and SSD cannot run Skyrim on at least medium high then I will be demanding some kind of exchange for the m17x

Well, after about 3 hours of testing different settings, Ive come to this conclusion.

    1. To get rid of the mouse lag, edit the inf file under MyDocs\MyGames\Skyrim and turn mouse acceleration to 0

    2. Ultra runs fine with Shadows on Medium and AA off @ 1366x768

    3. The m14x can handle it, but this game is unoptimized as.. poo.

    Hoping for a patch soon..

I think it looks great on High, with Shadows on Medium. There's occasional, unexplained super lag, but it's infrequent. The one occasion I got it recently I was unable to repeat it.

GearsGuy, there's two .ini files in My Games: you want to edit SkyrimPrefs.ini for that mouse acceleration fix.

Anyone else able to get the Launcher to recognize the nVidia card? Mine defaulted to "Intel HD Graphics" and won't change. It's obviousl, though, that it's running super well and USING the nVidia card, but just says "Intel" in the Launcher. Oh well.

So I finally got it running on almost all ultra at 1600x900 with 40-50fps

Go to Nvidia control panel and set it to these settings
    Anostrophic Filter 8X
    AA Gamma - Off
    AA Mode - Application Controlled
    AA Transparency - Off
    CUDA - All (default)
Maximum Pre Rendered Frames - Force to 3, dont use application controlled
Single Display Performance Mode (Unless youre using dual monitors of course)
    Power Management - Maximum Performance
    Texture Filtering - Off
    Negative LOD - Clamp
Texture Quality - Quality (normal, not high)
    Trilinear Optimization - Off
    Threaded Optimization - Force on
    Vertical Sync - Force off

Then, Under Skyrim settings, set it to the Ultra button at your native res.
    AF to 8 Samples
    AA Off
Advance -> Everything on High/Ultra with Shadows on Medium
    FXAA Off
    All water reflections
    Object Detail Fade On

Of course these are just my settings, but Im never dropping below 30fps

Also using an overclock of 765/1080/1530

You need to whitelist the TESV.exe file, not the launcher. The launcher launches the TESV.exe file... Try that.

Bethesda no longer cares about PCs. They even stated that they made this game for the xbox 360. So from now on they will be making console ports (but I have a controller to use so that is not really a problem aside from the fact that Skyrim could have been better if it was a PC only game).

I am STILL waiting on steam to finish its B.S. so I can play the game :(

Is the volume really low for anyone else? I have to crank my volume up really loud and it's still not that loud. And it's fine for every other game so it's something to do with Skyrim specifically. I even went into SkyrimPrefs.ini and changed the master volume but it didn't help.

First of all, Thanks Gearsguy for posting all that info! Really helped me out a lot. Got my settings the same as yours. And since I started using the video card instead of the integrated Intel graphics, I haven't had any further mouse lag issues. So really appreciate all the helpful information!

@Statik Tactik: YES! It is very low for me as well. Went and tweaked my sound settings and my Soundblaster settings too -- the voices especially seem very low to me. Just to compare, I went and loaded my Oblivion GoTY onto this laptop. Sounds were much, much louder. So I don't get why it's so much lower on Skyrim.
