So, I've had my M14x for about 2 months and I literally went for every hardware upgrade when I bought it, except for the SSD, which now of course I regret.

So what are my options in replacing my current HDD for an SSD without voiding my warranty? Can I go aftermarket and install myself, or pay a proffessional or even Dell to do it? Can I buy the one that Dell would have given me if I chose that and have them install?

If I go aftrrmarket, what is out there known to be working with NO issues. I've read alot about peope who find workarounds and/or make due with their current SSD, simply because it was cheaper. I want to buy something that will have the standard functionality of my current HDD.

+Rep for any relevant answers and suggestions.

Installing a new hard drive won't void your warranty, although if you or a third party company does it and you have an issue with your computer if Dell believes it may be related to the hard drive they will ask you to swap it with the original.

Okay, it seems there is almost none SSD's that work problem free aftermarket. A lot of users say they can get SATA III speeds with some tweaking, not installing certain drivers etc. Even running at SATA II speeds the most common problem appears to be every once n awhile for me personally its like 1 every 50 boots, it will hang on the windows logo.

If you pay Dell for their SSD they use, you will get support from Dell for it if there is any problems, and according to Dell there should be zero problems as their computer is built for that drive. Also, Dell only offers a Samsung drive not sure of the model number but I have not read a single bad thing about Samsung drives and understand them to be up there with Intel for reliability

    Hope that helps

This is the only thing I disagree with. They did not build the laptop to work with it, it just happens to work with the SATA II drive that they carry (they only sell samsung SSDs in any of their computers). While Samsung makes a good SSD, its retarded that I can't put any SATA III drive in my M14x and have it work at SATA III speeds without having to do anything.

It's not difficult to get a SATA III drive to work in it (at SATA III speeds that is), you just have to not install the intel rapid storage driver and change a power setting.
