    Hey guys,

I am looking to upgrade my 8gb 1600mhz ram that came with my m14x r2 (not sure what the brand of the stock ram is from Dell Australia?) to give me a bit more space on my virtral ram drive and to improve performance generally.

    I am considering either 16gb 1600 or 1866mhz Corsair Vengeance memory (Corsair CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB (2x8GB) Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL10 Unbuffered SODIMM).

The site says compatible with 2nd generation i7 processors.. seeing as mine is 3rd gen (refer to signature), will this still work and am I looking at the right model of memory? Is there a better option? Also what are the chances that the 1866Mhz will work with my m14x r2 (heard it works with some but not for others?)

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, that will work. Just make sure it's 204 pin, 1.5v, notebook memory. You only have 2 DIMM slots, so, you'll need 16GB (2 x 8GB).

Awesome; thanks. And what about with regards to the speed (1600 vs. 1866}? And are there any better brands/models?

3rd gen I7 systems are happy to take any ram capable of running with 2nd gen I7s. After all the 3rd gen motherboards can take 2nd gen CPUs.

So the ram arrived today. First thing i tried was simply disconnecting the battery, inserting the new ram and hoping for the best. This resulted in some very loud beeping when i switched it back on.

So then I reinstalled the original ram, went into bios --> advanced --> performance options and changed the memory frequency from auto to 1867. I also ensured that the power was set at 1.5V. Then i put the new ram in and power drained it. Smooth sailing since! Hope this helps others in the future
