Run some diagnostic tests that Dell has on their support page. You should be able to find them pretty easily. They might be able to tell what the problem is.

What kind of games are you playing specifically? Have you tried making the nVidia Geforce the default GPU for all applications?

I would definitely recommend cleaning up with CCleaner after uninstalling the old nvidia driver and before installing the updated one - can avoid a lot of problems by doing this. So what I would do is this:

    1. Uninstall ur current nvidia driver and all related nvidia software - all parts of it (HD audio driver, 3d vision driver etc. all of it - should be like 5 things to uninstall). Make sure u uninstall and dont just update the old driver with the new one to avoid problems

    2. Install and run CCleaner. Run both the cleaner and the registry repair tool a couple of times

    3. Install the new beta nvidia driver (x64 version of course) - restart when done.

Let me know if u need links :)

This is probably the horror issue with m14x r2 lately where either the cpu or gpu throttles at 65c so everything stays cool or so they say.

I would check this, it was a problem for me in some games, go into the nvidia control panel > 3d settings > global settings then switch preferred graphics processor to the nvidia high performance or w/e.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Monitor the temps of the system, specially while gaming. In this article you can find tools to do that and tips to keep temps under control.

I had a similar issue, my machine was refusing to use the NVIDIA GPU. Run unigine in default settings and see if you get above 30 fps.

Does the m14x r2 suffer from cooling problems? I'm planning to get m14x r2 with 3610qm and 650m... and play skyrim and Crysis on as high settings as I can.

You can verify that your games are running on the Nvidia GPU.

Activate the settings for show GPU activity.

And your game should show like this:

Yeah, I'm sorry for not using english language in my OS... :D

I just wanted to point out that when I had poor FPS the GPU activity monitor did say I was using the NVIDIA GPU but in fact I was not. I still recommend using the unigine at default to see if your GPU is actually being used (this was also the test Dell had me run).
