    Hi !
I have a M14xR1 for about a year now. The previous weak I reinstalled Windows 7 (clean install). Since then, the laptop uses battery while shut off. About 20 % per day. I am sure it is not in sleep or hibernate mode...
    What is the problem ?

Have you checked your power settings?

Open the start menu and type "what closing the lid does", maybe you had it set to hibernate before?

Yes, i have checked everything. I am sure it is shut down and not in any sleep or hibernate mode. I have tried disconnecting every device and charger, but still i have a 20-25% drop on the battery level per day...

I removed the battery, it does not discharge, so it is the laptops problem...

well seeing as how it started happening after you re-installed your OS id say its pretty safe to say its some setting or something and not a physical problem with the hardware.

i know you say that your sure its not in sleep mode but it seems the most likely reason this would happen.

if it were me id do some testing to make 100% sure its not some how "sleeping" after you turn it off. try shutting down your laptop like you always do then unplug the battery form it for like 10 seconds, then plug it back in. wait like whatever amount of time your normally waiting to see the 20% drain and power it back on. if the battery hasn't drained any then you might need to figure out how to really turn off sleep mode. maybe enable it, restart then disable it again?

I note this too in my M14Xr1. I think maybe the Power Share USB option in BIOS. I will made some tests.

Actually, i have tried this. I remove the battery for about 10 minutes and then place it in again.... The battery still discharges....
    I have tried everything...

based on what you have said here, if it was my laptop i would try flashing the latest Bios with Defaults.

it cant be a operating system problem because even if it was "sleeping", removing the battery for 10min would cause the system to completely shut down handing any control over the hardware to the Bios.

again this is assuming you have done everything you have said in this thread (no devices plunged in to USB ports, etc...).

with this in mind and assuming you flash to a good Bios with defaults it shouldn't happen any more. if it does i would only assume something is wrong with your mother board (bad power inverter circuit, messed up battery plug, random short someware). since your battery does not drain on its own when not plugged into the system it cant logically be your battery..

I had this same problem. I noticed it as soon as I received my r1. I spoke with Alienware support, and they replaced the battery for me. It did not change the battery drain.

How much RAM do you have? I have 8GB.

I just installed a SSD, installed the OS from the alienware respawn. I still have the battery drain.

How long does it take to recharge the last 20%?

Can there be anything faulty that makes the computer "believe" that the battery is drained while it is not?
Is it possible to calibrate the battery?

I've calibrated the battery before, multiple times. Doesn't do anything. It takes a good amount of time to charge that 20% while I am using the laptop, so I have no doubt it is really discharged that much. It's so strange. While its comparing apples to oranges, my vita only lost about 20% charge after being powered off for a month. I never lost this much charge with my old xps m1710, either. It's probably the only thing I dislike about this laptop. The other day, I was down to about 30-40% battery. I closed the lid (which puts it to sleep for a couple hours before hibernating), and came back to it the next day. The battery had just enough to boot windows. It was probably down to 5%, which is less than ideal for the battery to run down to.
