    Hi Guys,

I have some questions about put the SSD in my M14x R1.

I was reading about the r1 doesn´t support mSata and sata 3. But i saw that have some fix for Sata 3.

I Was looking for the samsung 830 ssd 256gb or the 256GB 2.5-inch SSD 840 Pro Series or Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD2 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC, a lot of topics and post say the 830 it´s amazing for the R1, but i don´t know which one is the best, and if there is another one who is better.

I will put the A8 Bios fix Sata 3.

I have to put the SSD into the HDD slot to running in sata 3 speed, or in the CDROOM slot it´s already ok? (using the bios Fix)

If i have to i will put the HDD in the CDROOM slot, and the SSD in the HDD slot.

Seem the HDD just running in sata 2 speed.

I´m using WIndows 8 , someone knows if there is any problem?

With this fix, i will have problems with cold boot?

What i will have to buy to put the second driver? i will have to

    Thank you.

You should have no issues with the Samsung 830 SSD. But yes, to get SATA III on the M14x R1 you need to flash the BIOS mod. And there is no mSATA support in the R1. As far as removing the Optical drive and putting a hard drive in it's place, you will need to buy an ODD to HDD caddy for that. I don't think the SATA port for the optical drive will run past SATA II but I may be wrong.

No, you're right, the SATA port there is SATA II max, on R1 and R2.

That's what I figured. I can't imagine Alienware to dedicate the ODD's SATA port to anything more than SATA II since no ODD will run past SATA I anyway.

PM830 is a very good quality one I would personally go for that one.

@radji, Thank´s for the reply.. I will flash the BIOS mod and put the ssd in the HDD slot and then i put thr HDD in thr CDROOM slot. i will buy a caddy with 9,5mm. It´s seen like perfect.
Do you know about the cold boot? if there is any problem?

@Alienware-L_Porras , Do you know if these SSD will work fine like the PM830?

I can personally confirm that the 512gb 830 really works fine at good speeds. As for the 840, a friend of mine installed a
500gb 840 this Monday, performing well since then :)
Though I'm speaking for the R2 version, I can't say anything about the R1.

There shouldn't be any issues with booting from an S5 state. I've never encountered any yet. Usually users are reporting issues when they try to bring the system back from sleep or hibernation.

I I'm in doubt between PM830 and PM840. The PM840 was cheaper then the PM830 and surely has a better perfomarc , but do not know if would run without problem in R1.
