Now that guild wars 2 is out for early release I was excited to test it out. Videos showed that an m14x with an i5, 555 1.5gb, and 6gb ram ran on high settings at 900p.

I have almost the exact same setup except I have 4gb ram and the 720p screen. My frame rates don't hardly go over 40, mainly staying in between 20 and 30, on medium-low settings. Anything I could do? It's running the graphics processor and everything, but not sure with this.

    Thanks

With all setting at medium, and some at high (no AA and one other thing i cant remember what it's called pushed down to normal not supersharp) i'm getting 42 - 50 ish fps on 1600x900.

Although the game did say with my current drivers (nvidia 304.42) there has been known to have crashing \ problems and that i should be using the beta drives (304.xx). I wasnt really keen on using the beta drivers as my system is really running nice, so i didnt bother upgrading. If your using the beta drives maybe thats the problem?

Apparently the game runs entirely from the CPU and doesn't use the GPU.
If you check CPU usage while the game runs, it should be above 90%!

Dev knows, patch on the way, or so I've read.

Also, for what it's worth, I've checked Can You Run It and my M14x R1 should run GW2 like a boss.
    Weird.

GPU utillization using MSI afterburner shows 60 percent to 99 percent. CPU utilization shows something on each of the 8 threads ranging from 20 percent to 100. (m14xR2). CPU multiplier shows x31. Its online so it uses CPU a lot, howerver the GPU speed is also important. I can easily hit above 70 FPS on PVE in city or open world with all settings on HIGH (including shadows) with No AA and Distance at low... Hitting an event it will bring it down to 40fps like the centaur bridge. If you have to disable turbo, your going to see a negative performance hit. Good luck

Ok, but like the thread title says, what about the R1?

Well, i can tell you that it doesn't run on the cpu entirely. As for how it runs on the R1 will depend on:
    1. Turbo enabled or disabled
    2. Network Bandwidth
    3. Operating system optimization (do you have win7 setup for performance and throttling removed)?
    4. Overclocking?
    5. SSD?

Google what you don't know, and let us know once you've got optimized. then post your performance findings.

    I have a r1 with a GW2 on a SSD

    i7 2760QM and the 555 OC'ed to 700/1400/990.

I get FPS of 60-80 in low population areas of PvE when running on everything med/high settings 1600x900. In higher population areas and in combat get between 30-50 fps. Im using the 306.xx beta driver which has increased my performance a lot!

Most of the time also the GPU is being used 80-99% apart from cut scenes obviously and the CPU ranging from 20-60% on all cores.
