I am new to the threads but couldn't find any information on this issue. Last night my keyboard randomly quit working on my m14x. I turned the computer off and it wouldn't turn back on. No power, no lights, nothing. If I disconnect the keyboard the computer boots just fine and I'm using an external keyboard right now. I can unplug all power, plug the keyboard in, the computer will boot once, keyboard still not working, and when I turn the computer off it won't turn on again until I unplug and plug the keyboard back in. Obviously the keyboarding is shorting something out. Nothing was spilled on it or anything like that. Aside from purchasing a new keyboard is there anything to try? Thanks for any input. :)

What kind of keyboard are you using?
    Are the drivers properly installed?

Yes, that is correct. I am currently using an external keyboard which works fine. Whenever I plug the laptop's keyboard into the motherboard the computer will only boot 1/3rd of the time. The rest of the time nothing, no lights, won't post, etc. Its obvious the keyboard is shorting out but I thought I may be overlooking something. I've tried it with and without the cable for the lights. I don't get any beeps during post when it will boot. The keyboard just won't work in windows nor at post to hit f2 to get into the bios. Bite the dust and order a new keyboard? I've just never heard of a keyboard going out and not allowing the system to boot at all. Lol.

I would suggest to replace the keyboard. If you need any parts for your Alienware out of warranty send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we'll take care of it. If you are within warranty and located in the US or CA send me a PM and I'll take care of it. Otherwise contact your local support team for a replacement.
