Hi, I seem to remember a while back that one of the Alienware laptops had a port/adapter that allowed a Digital Optical Audio cable to be connected. I own a m17x r4 and was wondering if there are any adapters that allow be to connect a Digital Optical Audio cable into my computer, and if so where would it connect to??

Left-hand side, fourth port from the front next to a USB 3.0 port. It's a 1/8" mini-toslink port, so you'll either need a standard toslink cable with a female toslink to mini-toslink adapter or a toslink cable with the mini-toslink side built in. Some M17x R4's came with the adapter you need according to some unboxing videos I saw on Youtube, so double check your packaging, but mine didn't so I had to dig an old cable up out of the garage.

I'm not too sure about this, but I think the M14x and the M17x also have support for 3.5mm TRS to TOSLINK adaptors, but I doubt it.

This one: Toslink Female to Toslink Mini Male Adapter looks like the adapter that used to come with the M17x and M18x. The trouble was the adapter that shipped with them was a fraction too large and it was jamming the trigger pin inside of the port, which was causing external audio to stop functioning.

Please note that there is already a thread for this discussion relative to the M17x and M18x:

the m14x does not support digital toslink output. i wrote them to ask about this, as my MacBook got me used to that feature. pretty lame.

This thread got very confusing, as when I first responded it did not have M14x in the title, was in a different forum and the op only specified the M17x R4. Now it has M14x in the title and is in the M14x forum, but the original post still asks about the R4.
