M14x Bluetooth?

Hey everybody, im a new user to the forums here.

I ordered an M14x Thursday (22 Mar) and I cant wait to get it. Now, heres my issue atm: When configuring I went through all the different options and NOWHERE was there an option to add Bluetooth. So since on the tech specs it lists Bluetooth I assumed that it was built in. However nowhere on the details of my order does it say Bluetooth and I have seen a lot of posters say that they added Bluetooth.

This obviously concerned me so I called Dell and after a long wait with the order modification specialist (or whatever you call them) She assured me that the Killer Wireless-N card I ordered had Bluetooth. Can anyone who recently ordered please confirm this??

Also here is now whats listed on Dells customization list. Killer 1103 is selected but the picture states 1202...

Heres the detail from my spec sheet.
Again, another thing thats off. The option was actually 2x2 MIMO but mine is 3x3 lol

I just received my M14x with Killer WiFi card. I installed an SSD and have begun the re-installation part of the task. Using files off the discs that shipped with the system and files downloaded off the Dell site I think I have everything installed except the Bluetooth. The installation wizard prompts me to "turn on the bluetooth". I can't figure out how to do that!

 

fn+f3 to turn on bluetooth if you indeed have it. I don't know if killer card has bluetooth i have mine installed with one for $20 additional. Have never used it though.

 

you need to install bluetooth drivers from dell site or for your specific card. otherwise, even if the bt radio is on, you will have problems with pairing

 

I did not get bluetooth when ordering my system, installed an Intel Centrino-Advanced-N 6320 wireless NIC that also has bluetooth and after getting the proper drives it works like a charm.

 

I have one device which still needs drivers which IMHO is my Bluetooth.



I have tried the Dell driver downloaded from Dell as shown here:



This is what I get when trying to install the driver and when I try to turn on the Bluetooth.



I have the latest drivers updated for the Killer WiFi card installed.



Summery
I can't turn on the Bluetooth because the drivers aren't installed.
I can't install the drivers because the Bluetooth isn't turned on.

Have you tried fn+f3 to see if it let you turn it on?? Very interested to see how that works out seeing as how ill have mine pretty soon. (This week hopefully ...)

 

That unknown device you have is most likely the free-fall sensor. Check your list to see if it is installed. If not, use this driver: Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

 

By the way, if you did have bluetooth and microsoft update is set to update drivers from the internet it would install some drivers automatically.

I am receiving my alienware in the next fee days, but in the list the bluetooth was included, but it was already there, i didn't choose anything

 

I notice all of your item numbers start with 4. Which option did you choose when selecting a system? Heres a pic of my order detail. Ichose the 1299 m14x option and customized it. I also went through the others as well and nowhere in those was there an option to choose bluetooth either. I just dont understand. Could it possibly be a glitch or something????

 

My final driverless device was an STI something or other which I think is the optical drive but I may be wrong. At any rate, all devices have drivers and the Bluetooth antenna is still grayed out. I can only surmise that my laptop does not have internal Bluetooth. I looked at my order sheet and it is not listed as an option but I do recall it being listed as a "standard feature" and was not something to choose/not choose. Se la vie. $10 Asus Bluetooth dongle and I'm gtg.

 

Yeah I was thinking it was standard as well. It isnt very fair that there is currently NO option to choose it when customizing especially if it ISNT standard. I have a Belkin Bluetooth dongle for my Gateway Laptop but I really didnt want to have to use up one of my USB ports on that. Im hoping that somehow someway Bluetooth is in there.


Update:
I just called Dell again and the guy helping me this time did his thing and he confirmed that it does have a Bluetooth device built into it. So we'll just wait and see. I really hope he isnt talking about the Killer Wireless like the last girl cause as far as I can tell The Killer does not have Bluetooth.

 

If the bluetooth option is greyed out, its pretty obvious that bluetooth module is not installed in your system. Other way to check is to remove the bottom plate, and look at the front light grill on the left ( where your windows 7 sticker usually will be). If you see a small card over there, then yes you have bluetooth, otherwise its not there. Opening the bottom lid is relatively easy and it DOES NOT void your warranty.

And no, killer wireless does not have bluetooth functionality. Bluetooth cards are usually separate entities and are placed in as front as possible for maximum connectivity instead of wireless card, which is tucked in middle and at bottom.

 

I am from México, and its a replacement that dell offer to me for my old m15x, but anyway if i choose the cheaper system here in MX, already have bluetooth in the specifications listed... the numbers of the list just a coincidence (it spells that way?? )

I went into the BIOS last night and there is an option for Bluetooth [ENABLED] and it is set to enabled. The Ctrl+F3 menu however still has the Bluetooth antenna greyed out.

I just bought few days ago from ebay one and I will install it myself. If in your order, the bluetooth was included (check your receipt for the part number), you must call Dell and let them know. They will either send someone to add a bluetooth card in your system or they will take it back (as a returned system) and build another one for you with a bluetooth card (which does not make sense, but sometimes Dell has some strage rules).

By the way, you can open the back cover of your system, and near the battery you will see the same bluetooth card ( Dell Alienware Laptops M14x wireless 375 G9M5X Bluetooth Module card + cable | eBay.

If the cable is there, but no bluetooth card, than you either did not order one separately, or dell forgot to add it into your system.
