    So my "scratch and dent" M14x arrived today, and seriously, the thing is awesome. Like the trackpad and corresponding buttons much better than the M17x r2 I tried out before. Fan seemed to run a lot, but it was during the initial setup and massive amount of updates/installs.

    I searched high and low, but could only come up with a 1/16-1/8" scuff on the top of the unit. Maybe somebody got a pinky nail stuck or something. Everything else looks prestine and lines up properly when open and closed.

    So never fear...give those scratch and dent products some love every once in a while!

    Now I can game.

    You know, I've been thinking whether it's actually more worthwhile to get the scratch and dent ones. See, the scratch and dent ones are the ones that people sent back. However, they have to refurb it and make sure it works after the laptop's been sent back. Essentially, isn't it more likely that you will get a laptop that works right away (as opposed to having to call in Dellianware support / send in and get a new one, etc etc) than buying a totally new one?

    That's my opinion, dell already got the laptop back once they are gonna fix it and make dang sure it's 100% good to go because they sure as heck don't want it back again.

    @Op congrats bro you'll love your m14x. I like mine way more than I did my m11x and ASUS g73. For a 14inch laptop its insane.

    Yeah, this has actually been cited as an advantage of buying refurbs from ANY company. There's actually attention paid to it, as opposed to "make it on an assembly line and ship it off once you verify the power light goes on".

    Thanks all. I finally got some games loaded today, and it's beautiful. I just have to figure out if it's worth a shot at "cloning" to the Momentus XT, or opting for a fresh install. There seems to be some debate over how to obtain the best performance.

    I ended up doing a fresh install since cloning was going to take a good chunk of time imo.

    Thanks clienterror...I made a backup copy today to my NAS. I think I'm going to shoot for a fresh install as well.

    Anybody know if there is a way around having to download 20 gigs from Steam again? That's really the only part that makes me want to wait.

    @dscar

    Unfortunately, I can't link the steam support website b/c its blocked where I'm at but, you can just back up your steamapps folder then re-install steam and place the steamapps folder back into steam. If you go to steam support and do a search you'll find the answer.
    Hope this helps!

    That's a genuine releif. All this Steam / Origin dl games stuff is new to me. I've not played PC games in years. If not for the injury, I wouldn't have the time or the new notebook. Should have known there was a way around.

    Thanks El Hondo!

    Just copy the contents from the c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common folder.

    When you reinstall steam, copy the contents to the exact same location. When you go to install the games in steam, it will install to 100% in a matter of a minute or so, and you are good to go.
