Who else is excited for Nividia's Kepler generation in next years Alienwares?

"An estimated 3 to 4 times the performance per watt compared to Fermi"

I don't know how you guys are looking at it, but either way that translates into more battery and or more power. Then if you add optimus into the picture we could see amazing results in the batter life department.

No matter how you spin it, we will be getting some insane GPU's next year! Mabye we will see some performance on par with the current high end GTX line in the late 2011-early 2012 line.

Sidenote: What are your estimations as far as the timeframe for an R2 in the M14x? Winter 2011? Early 2012? or sometime between CES and E3? Also how many of you will skip Kepler and wait for Maxwell before upgrading your M14x?

Your jumping the gun a bit haha. The only time we would probably see a revision is in a years time.

I am more excited for maxwell in 2013 with an over 7 to 1 power to watt ratio over fermi. I mean its always the next best thing lol. On a side note look out for llano

It's almost impossible to keep up to date with technology.

If I keep waiting, i'll be waiting forever...

Cause the way I see it, You wait for one, might as well wait for the next one...
but why get that one when you can wait for the next one, and then the next one,

It's a never ending vicious cycle lol

Why get Sandy Bridge when you can wait for Ivy Bridge?
Why get Ivy Bridge when you can wait for Haswell?
Why get Haswell when you can wait for Rockwell?

Ehh, I buy each big leap though. and Ivy Bridge is just the shrinking of Sandy Bridge so no real reason to upgrade for performance until Haswell. Then Rockwell is just the shrinking of Haswell lol

I agree 100% you shouldn't wait around forever. I was just excited as to where things are moving! I have always dreamed of smaller, more powerful and battery efficient gaming machines for years and I think we will see major improvements in just this year.

Correct me if im wrong, but I don't think we have had this big of a leap in GPU performance(Kepler/Maxwell). At least not in the mobile segment. Especially not in the last 5 years.

i'm predicting the m14x will get a revision within 8 - 10 months so It can include the Ivy Bridge and the Kepler. It seems like the only logical reason.

Why would dell waste money on a revision for 1 upgrade when they can do both, knowing how big the alienware community is.

Regardless... these laptops maintain their resell value, so if you or anyone else you know needs to have the latest a greatest. You can always get a good chunk of money with the current alienware and get the new one. :)

Yeah, It doesn't hurt to have about $500 in wiggle room either from MSRP for a resell LOL

3-4 times performance per watt doesn't mean anything.

It's the same thing they said with Fermi. All that means is Kepler could be only slightly faster than Fermi, while using a third of the power.

I plan to keep my m14x until 2014...which is supposedly the next console generation cycle.

Hence, most games until then should be at least playable on the m14x.

Also, anytime I spend over 1000 on a laptop, I intend to at least use it for 3 years before moving on.

Haswell makes more sense to me than Ivy Bridge, by then we should be on Maxwell too, unless I am wrong about the roadmaps. I put a 4yr warranty on my M14x so I'll just start shopping for best value at that point. There's not much point IMHO in tryin to aim for a moving target - just gonna make teh most of my new system and then when its time is done, move on to the next.

With how fast the technology market moves, its impossible to keep up. Also, agreed, watch out for Llano. I think a nice little power sipping Llano laptop with 400 Radeon cores could be nice. Being able to game moderatly well on an IGP? Bonus? Also, feel bad for the kid here with a C2D in 65nm and a 7950 GTX. Behind the Curve? Its been 3 years, its time for my new system.
