Ever since new I have had horrible stuttering in all of my video games, even valve games at 720p have bad stuttering and random fps drops. Benchmarks run flawlessly but video games run horribly. I have made sure my nvidia card is on, the computer is plugged in, I have tried overclocking, new drivers, throttlestop, you name it, and I still have not found a fix. I have replaced the hard drive with a momentus xt and the ram with kingston hyperx 1600mhz in hopes of fixing the stuttering, but all attempts have failed. If anyone is having this problem or knows how to fix it, your input would be greatly appreciated.

For me, most of my game I play never show any sign of stuttering except for Valve game like TF2 and Portal 1/2 and I solve it by either log off and log back in, or a restart would do. Not sure what's your problem but that work for me most of the time. And I notice that it happen if the CPU temp have reach 70C+, so a restart or a log off might reset that value.

Mine gets really hot, reaching 90's.....That's when the FPS drop....and it starts stuttering.

    Hi guys,

I beleive that the CPU starts throttling the clocks once it hits 85+ degrees.
There is a option in the unlocked bios A03, A05 to raise the temp settings. That would explain the stuttering effect.

That's CPU's throttling, it happen to all CPU when reach a near critical temp, mine also happen as well but I fix it by stop whatever you doing (If it is a program then exit it) then either restart or log off, that should reset the temp and stop the throttling, fps drop and stuttering etc...

What is the name of the setting in the unlocked bios can change the temp?

Temps on the cpu were reaching about 89 - 91 in games on the i7 2630 so I guess that explains it. Time for a repaste.

Regardless I have that pro 4 year warranty so I may see if I can get a new comp once the Ivy bridge stuff comes out if this problem keeps happening.

If you open it up and change a bunch of stuff, is it still under warranty?

What do you mean by this? I dont think change temp in BIOS is possible but If you were saying about the OC numbers then it will in the the Advance tab.

This is only with a unlocked Bios possible.

The option is under Advanced>Thermal something>throttle, it should start at 85 degrees, setting this to 90 should not hurt but then again those are pretty high temps and you should consider repasting.

Ah, I see what the OP trying to say, but I just want to add more thing to the OP, which is relate to the warranty, as I can see you saying that you have 4 year warranty, so be warn if you install this Unlocked BIOS, then if something went wrong, the warranty will not cover because warranty only valid if you using Dell's release software. But it's up to you if you still want to try it out.

Found the fix. Yea im having trouble with the stuttering which is due a problem with the integrated card/ optimus crap. But if you plug it into an external monitor through the displayport (only port truely connected to nvidia card), then all problems are fixed and it games as well if not better than my desktop. So calling dell to get the integrated stuttering, but I only game when plugged into a monitor so its all good.

That weird, because I dont stuttering at all, and tbh since I got the laptop I only plug to a HDTV twice and that time I was testing if the HDMI work or not, anyway it never stuttering on me. If I properly whitelist the game, the problem will never arise. anyway good luck with your call with Dell :)
