I am curious to know if anyone has tried to set up the M14X on an airline tray and how it worked out? Did you have to kind of tilt the body up in order to get a decent viewing angle? Or did you have to just leave it in your lap?

I am really interested in this machine but it seems to me that it might be 1 inch too big for using on an airline tray, and if that is the case, then I need to make some trade offs.

I have taken it on multiple airplanes this summer, it fits perfectly on an airline tray. I just recline the seat when I watch a movie.

Thanks for that info. What if you wanted to work on it-- say do a spreadsheet? Would that be somewhat difficult?

I was surprised at how well it fits on a standard airline tray, I can't see why it wouldn't work fine with spreadsheets or really anything.

Thanks! I have been concerned that it would be so tall, when opened, that it would hit the back of the seat in front and end up with the screen tilted slightly forward -- which would naturally be a bad viewing angle.

But how about gaming? Saw a video of a guy playing games on an airplane with his m11x, it was pretty awesome.

Well, an M11x is a much smaller machine than an M14x and I would expect it to do well on an airplane. Its the size of the M14x that I wonder about - the vertical size when its open.

I think for watching videos its a cinch if you push your seat back. Not so sure about anything else.. sort of mixed signals so far.

Later this week i'll be riding on the Amtrak from Rhode Island to New York City then onto Pennsylvania.

They have pull out trays similar to Airplanes, so I'll take a few pictures and post them here.

Then on the 23rd I'm flying home from the USA to the UK on British Airways. I'll also get it out and post a few pictures of the setup here aswell. (Providing I can sneak a few photos)

The tray size depends on the airline but the tray is about 16".5 wide by 9".5 to 10" deep.

Thanks! My issue is not in fitting the laptop on the tray, but rather being able to see the screen correctly and well when you open it. Normally, when you are on these flights and the guy in front of you tilts his seat back, the distance from the tray to the back of his seat is somewhat restricted.

I think I've had pretty good luck with laptops in the 9.5 to 10" high area. But the M14X is probably more like 11.7 inches high when opened -- and it might not fit well enough to do work like spreadsheets and the like.

That's what I was thinking about.
