    Hey all,

I have an Alienware M14x that have nonfunctional WASD keys. Essentially, I replaced my keyboard because the original's "D" button stopped working altogether (and as you can guess, that's pretty essential to gaming). So when I replaced my keyboard, every button works perfectly other than the WASD keys. Does anyone have any sort of insight or advice they can give so that I'm not forever doomed to using an external keyboard for a laptop?

    Thanks!

About 3 times now, but each time, the problem persists.

Keyboard is faulty - return for replacement. I presume it was purchased on eBay and this is really common - ebay sellers get the returns from dell and the other manufacturers and very rarely test them properly before reselling.

Can you recommend a place to buy a replacement keyboard then? It was bought some time ago, and you guessed it- from eBay.

You should be able to buy one directly from dell - just phone up with your service tag and explain you need to purchase a new keyboard.

After a cursory glance at the site, it doesn't look like they sell any. However, something else I noticed, is that this tends to be a fairly common and consistent issue regarding keyboard replacements. I'm wondering if it's because I got the R2 keyboard and not a R1 keyboard. Would that have anything to do with it?

Oh, just as an update, I tried to call them, but because my system was out of warranty, I was directed toward their out of warranty repair service. However, that team said:

"Your system hardware is no longer supported. We recommend checking out with a 3rd party reseller for parts and service for your system."

    Any ideas?

Just a thought - but does the old keyboard still work with the exception of the D key?

Assuming it does you'll have to try another one from ebay unfortunately.

As I advised to the OP - the keyboard you have purchased is defective - return it and get another replacement.
