Dont do it.. I tried it, it made my volume alot louder but my subwoofer started buzzing really bad and didnt sound good at all. Hoping I didnt hurt it. I changed back to the default config which fixed it

    Yeah.

You can try. Just right click on the speaker icon, playback devices, right click on speakers and hit configure speakers. Then from there change it to 5.1 and disable center and rear pair. I talked to a friend whose kind of an audio fanatic and he says if its not 5.1 but running at that its probably overpowering the subwoofer which can hurt it severely

EDIT: Was poking around in my system. It seems the Xi Fi sound controls the speakers more than Windows, and Soundblaster has it at 2.1. So maybe the 5.1 thing is for people who dont have Xi Fi? Not sure, but again, all I know is I think it was trying to murder my subwoofer :(

    Hi,

ia made a fresh installation - so i have no x-fi software.
    just the standart audio-driver.
i dindt change anything - the subwoofer is working fine.
playing stuff like GTA4 or DIRT3 makes the subwoofer vibrating due to the engine-sound :) sound realy nice.

DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING, because this is the reason why my Subwoofer got blown, when I use the 5.1 setting and change some stuff in the Realtek HD Audio Manager.

If you want to know if your subwoofer work, just lift the laptop up when playing bass-heavy music, to see if it vibrate or not, or use the iTune's equalizer change it to Dance and play a song, if it sound too crisp, that mean your subwoofer not working, but if it isnt, then it mean it working fine, just it is not configure to use at its max.

But I dont recommend to use it at its max, because like I said it is the main cause of the blown subwoofer.

If your product is under warranty, then I think dell will easily replace your blown subwoofer.

And can anybody just tell me what is the logic of incorporating a subwoofer that cannot handle operation at the highest output level?
