    Hey all,

I think I maybe the luckiest dude right now. The only reason I say this is because I've had some ongoing issues with my M14X. First over-heating and getting a bunch of things replaced, then my screen wouldn't work correctly. After calling Alienware tech support at least 10times, spending countless hours on the phone and not getting anywhere. I found an Alienware rep thru Twitter and told him my issue. He immediately got in contact with me, had a tech call me and said he would replace my laptop with another one, but first had to see what they had available since they thought some parts may not be available.

They just called me back today and notified me that I would be getting a M18x, upgraded processor, 6GB ram(instead of4gb), 750gb HDD(instead of 500), the best part is that they are upgrading my video card from GT555m to a GTX560m which is SOO SWEEET! From what I've read the GTX560m is about double performance from the GT555m. I couldn't be happier right now.

My recommendation if anyone uses twitter and they have an issue to tweet them and tell them your experience and or unpleasant experiences with your current laptop or tech support and they will help you immediately. They went ABOVE and beyond the call of duty for me.

Oh yea they also threw in a Customized Nameplate for free too as well :D

    Big ups for Alienware/Dell

    Chris

Well, wasnt the m15x like 120% bigger in volume than the m14x? I would assume the m18x would be like 200% or something LOL (meaning its equiv to like 3 M14x's)

Yup... M14x is not as portable as the M11x but a very good compromise of portability and gaming capability.

I wouldn't consider anything above the M14x as "portable" and the M18x is the least of it.

Having said that, I think that it's still a very good deal you got there as the M18x is basically a much more expensive system.
See if you like your new Desktop Replacement and if the lack of portability is an issue for you, you can still sell it, buy an M14x again and should even have money left in your pocket :)

Probably around twice as heavy as the m14x. The m14x is about 6.5 pounds, while the m18x starts at just under 12 pounds.

Would you be kind enough to share the name of the person you were in contact with on twitter as I'm considering opting up for an exchange if possible.
Similar situation, screen required replacing, etc, etc.

Just follow @Alienware and send them a tweet on what's wrong with your laptop.

Could you please help me chase up the Rep you dealt with and they can hopefully transfer me to someone in the U.K.

Are you getting a brand new m18x of refurb? Cause refurb m18x with spec you mention can be had for $1300-$1400 after coupon at the Dell outlet.

Not really... it would still be a good deal depending on how much you paid for the m14x.

I'm not familiar with the Dell exchange process but it look like they are giving you a pre-built system that they have in hands so its either new or refurb (I'm in the middle of an exchange as well and they assured me I will be getting a brand new one matching my actual specs or better)

Got ya. What was wrong with your laptop? When did you start the process? How long did they say before you get yours replaced or whatever?

Had the soft touch coat peeling of at some places (made a thread about that), sent it to the repair depot center, got it back with scratches all over the place and they offered me a system exchange no questions asked.

Was surprised but hey, can't complain :p

No idea. They told me to keep mine until I receive the new one.
You can check the statut at support.dell.com -> "support history and statuts"
I saw where they placed the new order then it got cancelled (they told me they forgot something in the new configuration) and now I see the new service number but no system ordered yet.

Good luck with yours and keep us updated!

Sounds good. I guess I'm pretty lucky that are sending me out an M18X, but just waiting on them to let me know the configuration of it and such.
