I've already searched here for topics about swaping the 1366x768 display to 1600x900 one, but no one really know that for sure :(
I'm tired of the low resolution i have with 768 display and I really want a 900 one
By the way, I prefer matte displays over glossy ones, and I found a 900 matte for a great price
Someone know if this swap is possible? I mean, do these screens have the same conector?

    Thanks :D

This should be able to be done, as the new M14's offer this. I would contact Alienware directly to inquire about parts. But, it would depend on the fixtures and connections of the screen part as well.

It is possible to do the change to a better resolution, the whole LCD assembly would have to be swapped but we have all parts available to do that and technicians in the case they are needed. Please send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Please remember to add your service tag and phone number so that we can contact you.

I know that Dell probably only ships the entire replacement lid assembly and not individual parts of it, but I am sure that there are fewer parts that would actually need to be replaced. At most, the LCD panel and cable should have to be replaced unless there are issues with panel thickness or mounting configuration.

    Hi
I have done this swap on my r1, dead easy to do, I bought the screen of a UK supplier (about £70.00) and swapped it over in about 5 minutes.

There is a YouTube video about removing the m14 screen panel, can't find the link but you should be able to search it no problem.

Great mate. So you had a 1366x768 and swapped to a 1600x900? Is the cables the same? Thanks a lot!

Nice man! Did you swapped the whole LID or just the screen itself?
    Thanks

I did just the LCD Unit, just the panel. I actually removed the glass frame and left it off on one of them, I'll see if I can round up some pictures.

What was the exact model number of the displays you swapped in. And do the matte 900p displays have high contrast like the M14x's glossy 900p display does?

Gold Shovel Post, bringing dead post back to life!

So, after all this time I really got tire of my crappy resolution screen and I'll go the swap
Can I buy just the 900p screen or do I need the whole lid, cables, etc?

The m14x uses a LVDS connecter and protocol which is very different to the EDP interface that 14' 1080p displays have.
