2630QM does not support 1600MHz. Despite the ram being 1600Mhz, it will only run at 1333Mhz.

Well I think it is a 1600Mhz one, but the 2630QM would just limited at 1333Mhz, just the RAM is running at 1600Mhz.

So why does Alienware make you order 1600MHz RAM with the 2630...

The 2630QM will work with 1600Mhz RAM, you just have to set it manually in BIOS. It's technically an overclock, it's not officially supported as per Intel's site, but it works.

Your CPU-Z screenshots are correct, Dell uses CAS 11 1600Mhz sticks. They use CAS 9 for their 1333 sticks.

Their stock 1600Mhz RAM, taken out of my own M14x:

One of the reasons we're all upgrading the RAM ;)

So is it mean that it is a type of OC, just like the GPU/CPU, basically it support up to 2.2Ghz (2720QM) but you can OC it to whatever higher clock and it is still support to run like that?

    Is that what you mean?

Yes, it's an OC, just as you would on a desktop chip/RAM. The i5's and lower are locked to a max RAM speed of 1333 by the way.

Dell "makes" us choose 1600 RAM on the i7 configurations because it supports it, but the 1333Mhz RAM would work fine too.

I run the g.skill 1600 just plug and play..it runs in the m14x at 1600. The Kingston 1600 runs native at 1333 and you have to go into bios and set the XMP to 1600 which is an OC, mode. The m14x will run native at 1600 if the correct ram is used. Hope this helps. ;)

But 1333 cas 9 and 1600 cas 11 will be the same after all. I just manually set the ram 1333 in the bios. What is XMP?

It's a preset over clock that Intel will use with ram, Kingston has it on their Hyper X ram. With out it on the ram will run at 1333 instead of 1600. Google XMP for a better more in depth answer.

i got some better syntetic number with 1600 cas 11 ... but 1333 cas 9 should be better in real world i think. my samsung modules is 1600 cas 11 whats happened if enable XMP profile in bios? i googled it and says that is an overclock profile made by intel for memory ...

EDIT: i enabled the profile 1 and it was reseted to default 1600 11
