Hello all Ive searched this forum for a thread which explains how someone
can change the M14X default graphics to the GT 555M. When I tried to
installing the Nvidia drivers im getting all the wrong message like everyone
is getting and then i went to Start > dxdiag > and found out that my
graphics card isnt the GT555M but the Default Intel Graphics.

Question how do i change it so my M14X only uses the GT555M graphics even
upon startup because i only use my laptop whilst plugged in and yeah. Once I figure out how to do this and install the Nvidia Drivers i might be even able to play a game on this thing.

Just installed Samsung 830 Series SATA3 SSD and had to revert back to Bios A05 FYI, The Computer is Brand New Please help out a Noob plz :D

I'll try to help the best that I can.

On your desktop right click any open area. There you will see Nvidea control panel, click on it. This will open up the command module for you, from there you should be on the page that determines what to use and you can set it as always. I believe it'll be on the right hand side in a drop down menu.

I'm at work and going off memory here.

Yeah but there is no nvidia drivers installed on the laptop yet so there's no option to click on it. I cannot install nvidia driver because it doesn't detect the hard ware only the intel mother board graphics

For my understand, do you mean to permanently disable the Intel iGPU and to have the display to use the GT555M Only? If that what you mean, then there is no way you can do that, because I've tried it once and cause me a LCD and a motherboard replacement, because I install a unlocked A05 BIOS then set the main Display from the iGPU to the PCI (I thought that's for the GT555M) which I was completely wrong and causing the problem I said above. Unlike the M17x, the M14x's LCD seem to somehow the LCD display is link and only able to display under the Intel iGPU.

I do that at the first place is because that I dont want to bother whitelist every single game's .exe file to have the game to play on the GT555M, and since like you said, I only play game whilst plugged in so then the Intel iGPU will be unused.

So if I install a video game say star wars the old republic and run it up you guys saying the laptop will detect the game and it will automatically change to the GT555M? So when the game is on and running only then can I install the nvidia drivers shut down the game then restart the computer.

I just can't fathom how complex it is to Play a game on a gaming laptop I think Alienware put this safety in place because if the GT555M was running all the time it would certainly damage the laptop from an overheating point of view.

I just want to play my game with the good graphics card. I tested my windows index score at it came up as 1.0 which was the graphics score the rest was at 6.7 has anyone else bought this laptop and tried to get it going properly.

Because I've read similar threads where peoPle have tried to play games and the graphics cards do not switch over and the gaming performance is quite poo

Some games that natively support the new NVIDIA Optimus Technology will automatically detect the GT555M though some will not, that's why it is always good to whitelist every single game's .exe file just to make sure that the game will run on the GT555M.

That's the result of Alienware trying to conserve power by opting to the NVIDIA new tech called NVIDIA Optimus what it do is, it will instruct the game to play on the GT555M whenever it detect a supported game or whenever a game's .exe (that you whitelist) is launched. And once you finish, the GPU will switch again to the Intel iGPU to conserve power, now that's a nice technology but because of it is still new to the industry, not many game nowadays natively support it, but I'm sure in time, more game will be supported.

That WEI score is not show the GT555M's rating, it is actually the Intel iGPU, according to the WEI summary it is rate using the main display which is the 14" LCD and that LCD is using the Intel iGPU.

You got a Windows score of 1.0 because you dont have ANY driver installed. You NEED the Intel Video card driver installed. After this has been installed (and reboot), you may install the nVidia driver.

If you try to install the nVidia software, it will toss a big error "Warning, no GPU Driver installed, please install Intel Driver"

You should do what it says. If you have just the intel drivers installed, you should get a 3.5 or 4.0 on your video card score.
