The space that will be used for the 2nd HDD on the Alienware 14 is located where the Optical Drive is, you need to remove the ODD and put a cage there. The cage part # is 673WT.

The part is not active for sale yet. We focus on getting the new systems out before offering upgrade parts.

I you were to guess, then how long, or how many months can we expect that the part will be available?

Guess it should too, does the 14 not have a DVD tray? You just slide the disk in? If so yes it will work.

I called Alienware and they gave me the caddy for free. Also free screws. Don't forget to ask for data cable its different from the CD drive data cable.

Needs a different data cable... Well this may explain why I am getting BSOD? As I haven't changed the cable. What do you think?

Keep in mind people, that part number is the official caddy.

The ebay kits are specifically designed to fit any internal laptop DVD drive, so a 9.5mm kit will fit properly in any laptop with light modification :)

This is an old thread, but I really need to get the caddy into my AW 14.

Does the optical SATA port support SATA3 with the caddy installed?

Seems to be some confusion over the part numbers, what are the exact part numbers needed to put in the caddy fully working?

The ODD should run at SATA II, regardless of the disk installed.

Dell support is utter rubbish, massive thumbs down for their disappointing service.

I have PM one of the active Alienware reps here, but obviously ignoring me.

Can anyone please let me know what parts do I need exactly?
